COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Old Oscar's Brown Sugar is a special blend of barley malts and hops, along with a healthy measure of brown sugar that results in a surprisingly smooth dark ale. Slight toffee and raisin notes, with a mild hop finish, this ale is a perfect transition brew from the chilly nights of winter to the breezy days of spring.

UPDATED: MAR 29, 2004 Firkin version at Barley's 2nd Annual Mini RAF (03/27/04) (3.6): I wasn't as impressed with this beer's cask-conditioned version as with others during this event. The beer is a dark murky brown color with a medium tan head. The aroma is sweet maple and toffee, along with the telltale brown sugar. Medium-bodied and syrupy sweet, it appears the cask conditioning mellows out the hops bite in the normal version, making this a little too cloying with the sweetness. Same goes for the finish. Where the normal version is a great session beer, this one is just a little too much.

04/21/02: Outstanding offering from Barley's. Their seasonal stuff is top notch. Perfect hint of brown sugar make this a sweet and easy to drink ale.

Pours brown with a big tan head. Weak malty aroma. Taste is sweet. Somewhat thin mouthfeel. Big alcohol taste throughout. You could have told me this beer was 9% and I would believe it. A weal selection from a normally strong lineup of beers at Barleys.

Deep reddish brown in color with a thin but lingering head and spotty lacing. Given the name, I thought this would be sweeter than it was. The malt flavor reminds me of Barley's Robert Burns which I sampled earlier in the night only much milder.

Smoooooth. Just had this one off the tower. Pretty sweet. Low hops. Sort of like an American Scottish style. Good.

This is a great beer! I was very pleased with the flavor - very sweet. This would be a good first dark beer for a girl to try if she was trying to stop drinking the light crap.
