BBB63 (3676), La Porte, Indiana, USA May 22, 2008 Growler at 2008 DLD, thanks to whomever brought this: Very deep brown hue with a small tan head and okay lacing. The aroma has notes of oats, walnut, chocolate, vanilla, espresso, herbal hops, and earthy yeast esters. The taste starts with a quick dose of sweet malt followed quickly by a smack of coffee bitterness and some herbal hop bitterness. Light prune and green tea notes as well. The mouth feel is thin to medium-bodied with an ashy finish. A solid brew all around but then again I like coffee. bu11zeye (3573), Frisco, Texas, USA Nov 1, 2004 (Bottled by Dogbrick) Poured a dark brown body with mahogany highlights and a spare tan head. Aroma of sweet malt, coffee, and nuts. Bitter finish. Flavor of coffee and malt. Thanks Dogbrick! Tmoney99 (3414), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Nov 9, 2007 Draft at Smokehouse. Poured clear brown color with an average fizzy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate roasted coffee aroma. Medium body. Medium roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good drinkable dark brew. Sammy (2959), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 19, 2008 Enjoyed at the Smokehouse location on tap, this beer has created a local sensation using local gourmet store’s purchase of high quality coffee. Intended as a limited release for the winter, this has been kept on in the lineup. And it is mostly that. Coffee aroma, very dark with an off-white head. The coffee was well done. A bit watery in mouthfeel. OhioDad (2492), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Jun 12, 2005 Draft at alehouse #2 - Pours black with a short tan head. Aroma is coffee a touch of chocolate and some barely detectable hops. The flavor is quite malty and the coffee strength hits you right in the mouth first sip. On the back side you can pick up a sweeter side with some chocolate sneaking in before the bitter hops give this a beautiful finish. On the palate this is quite creamy and mouth coating. I thought this seemed more like a stout than a porter though. Either way it was very good and I’ll have another very soon...
