OhioDad (2492), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Jun 12, 2005 Draft at alehouse #2 - Pours black with a short tan head. Aroma is coffee a touch of chocolate and some barely detectable hops. The flavor is quite malty and the coffee strength hits you right in the mouth first sip. On the back side you can pick up a sweeter side with some chocolate sneaking in before the bitter hops give this a beautiful finish. On the palate this is quite creamy and mouth coating. I thought this seemed more like a stout than a porter though. Either way it was very good and I’ll have another very soon... Rogueone (410), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA Apr 17, 2008 Draft at Barley’s Smokehouse. Darkest brown color, with a very fragrant and sweet coffee aroma that reminded me of an Iced Hazelnut coffee. Mild and smooth roasted flavor, mirroring a cold Kona coffee without any bitter finish. This beer hides its alcohol, and is a must-try for anyone who appreciates a good cup of java. BeerVirgin72 (621), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 26, 2008 Had on tap at the Smokehouse. Dark brown/black pour. Nice creamy head. Aroma of dark chocolate and coffee. I prefer a sweeter porter, but found this surprisingly delicious! Taste was very much roasted flavored coffed. Very good. Darkover (1230), Columbus, Ohio, USA Nov 5, 2004 Dark brown with a small beige head. Coffee aroma. Flavor of coffee and a little chocolate. Really smooth and drinkable. One of their better beers. Dogbrick (2358), Columbus, Ohio, USA Oct 24, 2004 This anniversary beer pours like a cold cup of coffee. Dark brown but it lets quite a bit of light through. Medium thin and rocky sandpaper colored head that dissipated quickly. Thin, spotty lacing throughout the glass. The aroma is all coffee, all the time. A light touch of malt in the nose as well but it is minute compared to the blast of java. Medium-bodied, roasty and very smooth, with coffee at the forefront, especially as it warms. It makes for an enjoyable drink although the downside is that it is one-dimensional. Malt and chocolate are present at times but at no point will you forget that coffee is the name of the game here. The finish is dry and roasty like espresso. A good offering from Barley’s, and I am interested to try the ice-cream made from this.
