3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ogglethorp (916) - USA - OCT 5, 2007
On tap. Pours a clear dark brown color with a smallish light tan colored head. Aroms is coffee, roast, slightly sour note. Flavor is coffee, roasted malt, and little else, again a slightly sour note. Palate is medium bodied, a little on the thin side, mildly carbonated, finishes creamy and bitter. Slightly better than the regular version, simply because of the nitro pour. Not great. Earlier Rating: 8/20/2007 Total Score: 3.3 On tap. Pours dark brown with a smallish beige colored head that almost settles out. Aroma is weak hint of coffee, roasted malt. Flavor is nice, coffee, roasted malts, chocolate. Palate is somewhat thin, medium to mild carbonation, finishes bitter. Decent flavor but loses me with a very thin mouthfeel, and somewhat weak aroma.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Drake (5230) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - AUG 16, 2011
Served on draft at the Smokehouse location. Pours a dark ruby color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of rich coffee notes, chocolate and sweet roasted malts. The taste is roasted malts, bitter coffee and chocolate. Thin-medium bodied. Nice.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 jrallen34 (3445) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 26, 2011
The beer is a very dark brown with a light tan head of 2 fingers high. There is decent retention and lacing.
The aroma is a big one noter, which is all roasted coffee. The smell is good but get’s overwhelming and boring quickly.
The taste is same way, just all coffee. I tried hard to pull anything else out but its just not there.
The biggest complaint about this is beer is its feel. It should be heavy but its all water.
Overall, not great. Too much coffee, not enough feel or complexity.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Panzuriel (1080) - Westerville, Ohio, USA - NOV 30, 2010
On Tap at the smokehouse as well: Deep rich brown opaque with a firm head of small bubbles. Nose is rich roasted coffee and malt hints. Taste is dry coffee notes with good malt. Body is smooth medium happiness. Finishes with just a touch of good bitter coffee presence.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 JaBier (3212) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - NOV 25, 2009
On tap at the Smokehouse. Dark brown pour with a medium tan head. Roasty coffee aroma with some creamy chocolate. Creamy coffee flavor with a whole lot of carbonation, almost like pop. Still pretty good though, and a whole hell of a lot better than the batch they had this time last year.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 foundersfan (30) - Ohio, USA - NOV 1, 2009
Can you say COFFEE. Tastes heavily of fresh coffee with a hint of stout. Great brew to sip and relax. Had it on tap at the Smokehouse.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Rastacouere (5919) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 29, 2008
Before entering this rating on Ratebeer, I had no idea the beer was brewed with coffee. My notes make a strong statement that it’s more or less all that I could taste in the beer. I guess it makes them successful and means the beer was focused enough, but it did not have the decadence or texture of a Péché Mortel, which makes you fascinated enough to want the same flavour over and over again. Instead, it shows just a soft roastiness and straight up coffee, with the unpleasant beany notes that often come with it. Dry and lean-bodied, but tasting fresh enough.

On tap at the Columbus Microbrew Festival. Poured black with a thick tan head. Tasted heavily of coffee and was great.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sammy (6113) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 19, 2008
Enjoyed at the Smokehouse location on tap, this beer has created a local sensation using local gourmet store’s purchase of high quality coffee. Intended as a limited release for the winter, this has been kept on in the lineup. And it is mostly that. Coffee aroma, very dark with an off-white head. The coffee was well done. A bit watery in mouthfeel.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BBB63 (5023) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - MAY 22, 2008
Growler at 2008 DLD, thanks to whomever brought this: Very deep brown hue with a small tan head and okay lacing. The aroma has notes of oats, walnut, chocolate, vanilla, espresso, herbal hops, and earthy yeast esters. The taste starts with a quick dose of sweet malt followed quickly by a smack of coffee bitterness and some herbal hop bitterness. Light prune and green tea notes as well. The mouth feel is thin to medium-bodied with an ashy finish. A solid brew all around but then again I like coffee.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Glouglouburp (4772) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 16, 2008
In short: A very smooth and fruity Porter of average quality
How: Tap at brewpub (SmokeHouse location, AleHouse #2)
The look: Black body with a small beige head
In long: Smooth creamy body reminiscent of Oatmeal Stouts. Not much roasted feeling. Just a mash of dark malts with some raisins and some prunes flavours. I though the chocolate and coffee were taking a backseat although they were supposed to be the dominant flavours. I even got some bananas when I closed my eyes and forget it was a black beer. I also saw some hot chicks on a beach when I closed my eyes and forget I was a beer-geek in a brewpub.
