On tap at Ale House No. 1. Golden sunset orange with a small white head. Huge aroma of citrus fruit (grapefruit and tangerine) with a subtle malt background. Juicy hop flavor like freshly squeezed orange juice with a slightly spicy rye finish. Very easy drinking and quite delicious.

On draught at the brewpub. A good but slightly straightforward IPA with a nice grassy aroma and just a bit of that hop sourness to it.

On tap at the Alehouse. Clear orange pour with a medium off-white head. Orange and grapefruit hop nose with a bit of rye malt character, but not much. Probably wouldn’t have picked it out if rye wasn’t in the name. Flavor is of bitter orange, rye malt and grapefruit with a bitter citrus finish. Very good beer.

I am a sucker for the word "rye" in a beer name, so I had to order one of these in my first visit to Barleys Brewing Co. And while I was skeptical of my choice after a disappointing experience with the 4 Seas DIPA and I was dismayed at the very pale color of this beer, I was happily surprised by the aroma and flavor of this beer.
Body was pale. Head was plentiful. Aroma was hoppy, but had a really satisfying malty biscuit note to it. Flavor was hoppy, and had a mouth-scratching character I’ve found in other rye beers. Still non-threatening and approachable, but I found it to be very good.
I would recommend this beer. I had this on-tap at the brewery.

Medium golden color with strong rye aroma. I thought the rye was a bit overpowering, but I can respect the quality of the beer -- on the particular day I tried it I just was not in a "rye" mood.

On Firkin @ The Alehouse: (Listed as being "with Simcoe" not sure if this should be a separate entry or not) Pours a hazy peach color with a small loose white head. Aroma, spices, citrus, pine and some pale malts. Flavor, lots of grapefruit with some light piny notes, some rye, some spicy notes, juicy hop flavor, smooth with a nice bit of bitterness to it. Quite good.

From the firkin at the alehouse. Pours yellow/light golden with a nice white head. Aroma is powerful blast of sweet, citrusy hops. Taste is smooth, bitter, hoppy, sweet, and grainy. Nice complexity. Certainly one of the best rye beers I’ve had. This one hit the spot. Excellent.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 JMFG (1584) - Florida, USA - MAR 24, 2007
On cask at brewpub. Straw color with a nice thick white head that leaves behind lacing. Clean mild citrus hop aroma. Palate medium-bodied, but expected more body from the rye. Mild hop bite to begin, which lingered a bit after the taste. Pretty good, would’ve liked more body.

2/19/07: On cask @ Alehouse #1. Fresh hop aroma of citrus and fir tree. Body is a murky apricot color with a creamy almond colored head. Tranquil. Lace clings a bit to glass. Fresh hop flavor – citrus (grapefruit) and pine needles. Creamy finish. Love the hop freshness…
