COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We are trying a little experiment. Saint Joan’s Revenge is one of our more popular winter ales. No question there. We thought it might be interesting if we did a twist on something already great. This firkin is the premiere of Saint Joans Cherry Revenge. We have only got the one firkin, so how can you pass it up?

On firkin at the Smokehouse. Darkest brown/black pour with almost no head. Notes of sour cherry, cream, vanilla, chocolate and coffee. Creamy vanilla flavor up front, blending into subtle cherry with a bit of tartness and finishing with chocolate and coffee. This can’t be an easy style to pull off correctly, but they nailed it. Truly outstanding.

Draft at MRAF 2009. Poured a black color with a small frothy brown head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted dark chocolate, cherry and alcohol aroma. Heavy cherry and roasted malty flavor with a heavy bittersweet and small alcohol bite finish of long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a very good beer.

Firkin. Pours nearly black with basically no head. Aroma is cherries, chocolate, hint of coffee. Flavor is tart cherries, chocolate, coffee, dark dried fruits. Palate is full bodied, no carbonation, finished sweet and creamy. A little more cherry in this one than the Red Star, and I like the base IS a little better. This was really good stuff, but the lack of any carbonation and head deters just slightly for me. Unfortunately, I was told this did not go over very well, so this may be the last time we see this.

From the firkin. Black color with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and cherries. Flavor of roasted malts and some cherry. Long roasty finish.

On firkin at the Smokehouse, served in a snifter. The beer pours a flat black color with a minimal light beige head that disappears quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and dark cherries. Full body with flavors of roasted malt, coffee and subtle sour cherry. The finish is dry with notes of coffee and dark fruits. Overall this beer is pretty good, as the fruit does not overpower the original recipe.
