Named after the patron saint of Barley’s, this is a big Imperial Stout that pushes alcohol to the State limit of 12%. If you can get it in the cask or firkin, you’ll be experiencing the joy of barrel-contioned ale--conditioned in a retired Jack Daniel’s barrel. Perfect autumn sipping ale.

TITW Part Deux - 12oz handbottle courtesy of hopscotch. Thanks, Eric! Dark brown center; slight, dark tan head. Strong aroma, showing diacetyl and dark chocolate; smells hot. Medium mouthfeel: butter, dark chocolate and some roasted malts. Medium finish: milk chocolate and slightly dry.

TITW Part Deux - Brownish black, thin tan head. Nose on this was quite complex with rich notes of butterscotch, cashew, milk chocolate, brown sugar, vanilla, and a touch of brown sugar. Black chocolate flavors become well layered with additional vanilla and booze tones. Medium bodied and slick, light carbonation, soft bittersweet finish. Would be a great sipper around the fireplace in a snowstorm...

TITWPD. Dark brown body with a tiny, tan head. The aroma is bourbon, booze, chocolate, butter and roast. The flavor is chocolate, alcohol, vinous, fairly dry and bitter. Medium body, warm and astringent.

12oz hand bottled, big thanks to Lou18 for sharing and Moejuck for sending. Dark brown, nearly black color with a small tan head. Aroma of fresh maple syrup, dark chocolate, vanilla and a bit of oak. Flavor was mildly sweet roasted malts, chocolate, some smoke, vanilla and again maple syrup. Did not detect any bourbon, but the alcoholic finish was very warm and inviting. Kept finding something different with every sip. Thanks again Lou!

Hand bottled from a growler... TITW Part Deux... This beer rocks!... Black ale (mahogany when held up to bright light) with a small, creamy, beige head. Chocolate liqueur and butterscotch nose (the light diacetyl really works with this one). Chocolaty flavor. Medium sweet with lots of charred, mildly bitter notes. Hints of vanilla and booze. Full-bodied and oily with modest carbonation. Finishes bittersweet. World class! Thanks to Moejuck for the sample!

12-oz. bottle hand-bottled by moejuck, thanks Joe. Pours opaque with almost no head, some edgy off-white head. Aroma is leathery yeast, lactose, chocolate and caramel nutty malt (cookie) with a vanilla nose. Medium sweetness, caramel and chocolate malt, vanilla, medium acidity and bitterness, milky chocolate malt and leathery yeast flavor. Full bodied and velvety, smooth palate.

12oz hand bottled from moejuck, YOU RULE! Nose was vanilla, then wood, the a trace of alcohol. Small tan head did not last long, but the black body was so inviting. Trace of chocolate as well. The taste was very thick and creamy. Vanilla and bitter chocolate, followed with some wood aspects, and caramel and bourbon. Very smooth, there was some alcohol warming in my throat and belly, but very little in the taste. The carbination was on the low side, but this was a great brew. They are doing grewat things there! Excellent brew.

Growler from Barleys Smokehouse. I’ve had many brews from here, but this one is by far their best. The pour is black with a nice frothy tan head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is of roasted malt, and cofee with a slight hint of bitter chocolate. Taste is great--lots of roasted malt and that bitter chocolate as well. I love how smooth and rich this beer is. Perfect mouthfeel. I had no idea this was 12% as I was drinking it--would have guessed it at about 7 or 8. One of the best stouts I’ve had to date.

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2006 From a growler thanks to Nolankowal: Black with an off white head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, coffee and some vanilla. Flavor, chocolate, roasted malt, some oak and vanilla. Medium to full bodied. Pretty solid stuff. Had a fresh glass from the smokehouse. Even better than before.

Draft at MRAF in Columbus, Oh. Poured black with an average frothy brown head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Heavy caramel coffee and bourbon barrel aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium sweet bourbon flavor with a sweet finish that was long and lasting. Much better than my expectations.
