COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after the patron saint of Barley's, this is a big Imperial Stout that pushes alcohol to the State limit of 12%. If you can get it in the cask or firkin, you'll be experiencing the joy of barrel-contioned ale--conditioned in a retired Jack Daniel's barrel. Perfect autumn sipping ale.

Pour is black with a thin brown head...smell is sweet and roasty with lots of sweet chocolate flavors...some earth fruit sweetness too...sweet and chocolatey...seemed a little overly sweet...alcohol not really obvious though...but it still seems a touch one sided...

On cask at Barley’s Smokehouse. Very dark color, lasting dense tan head, beautiful lacing... very appetizing-looking. Aroma is woody, chocolatey, sweet. Taste is much more powerful... lots of bourbon, oak, chocolate, alcohol. Almost like a Scotch Ale in it’s sweetness, a little overpowering with the bourbon flavor. Nice beer, unique... just a bit too much for me. P.S. This was my 100th rated beer... I felt like I was accomplishing something great, and I got NO MUSIC. I am a failure as a beer rater.

Growler thanks to Sliffy at the Ohio International gathering. Good bubbly head on black body. Smooth and acidic simultaneously. and tasty and very drinkable. Fresh with good carbonation.l Medium mouthfeel-its an imperial stout not an RIS.I think we will be hearing more from this brewpub.

12 oz handbottle, via moejuck. Pours a clear dark black colored body under a one finger creamy light brown head with decent retention. Aroma is roasty with alot of anise, alcohol, and dark fruits. Lesser notes of espresso, chalk, and burnt malt. Flavor is more fruity than roasty with quite noticable alcohol, anise, and burnt malt. Long lingering alcoholic fruity finish. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and fairly cloying and sticky. Carbonation is soft and pleasant. This was OK, but the fruitiness was a little bit much for my tastes and the body was overly sticky and cloying.

Huge thanks to moejuck for taking the time to hand bottle this brew. Nose is fairly comp[lex with some vanilla notes with a bit of the bourbon, not overdone by the way. Some lightly added flavors of coffee and cocoa. Not a bad brew just turned out a little thin on the tongue.

Growler from Schroppfy - thanks! Nice looking dark brown color with almost no head. Aroma is thick with bourbon, oak, vanilla, and chocolate. Flavor has a little coffee, chocolate, and way too much bourbon. The subtle oak notes and vanilla that should be there are overwhelmed by the whiskey taste - is it due to the Jack Daniels barrel (I think Weyerbacher uses them too and they are sometimes overdone too). Good effort, just tone down the whiskey.

Had at Barley’s Mini Real Ale Fest 2007! This beer was truly bizare! Very strong smell of whisky up front. Taste of chocalate and some sweet coffee. Very thin. Drinkable, but the flavor was just a bit too intense for me.

Sampled from tap on 11/08/2006 at Barleys Smokehouse (Ale House #2)... Nearly black in color. No head at all. Aroma is dark roasted malt and hints of chocolate and coffee. The flavor is sweet with hints of whiskey or bourbon part way through. It also has an unidentifiable fruitiness to it. The alcohol content is fairly evident. Silky and smooth on the palate. Good, but not great (the details sound better than they actually are). I was pretty disappointed with this beer.

Handbottle, courtesy of Degarth, thanks Joe! Pours black with very low carbonation, looks simplistic. Heavy roasted malt and sweet chocolate and vanilla aroma, miniscule hop presence. Flavor is identical to the smell, very subdued and simple. Mouthfeel is very light for an imperial stout. This beer finishes heavily roasty and without much lingering flavor, other than roasted malts and cheap chocolates. Very smooth overall but rather uninteresting, just too thin for my tastes. Decent, but certainly not a memorable effort.
