Draft at Alehouse #2. Poured dark brown color with a medium frothy brown head that lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate complex spicy, nutmeg and honey aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture. Moderate spicy sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of modeate duration. This is a solid beer.

12-oz. handbottled sample provided by moejuck. Pours lightly cloudy tawny with spare white head and lacing, mostly diminishing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, caramel, nutty), average hops (perfume, flowers), average yeast (dough, leather) with notes of brown sugar, toffee and soap. Moderate sweetness and bitterness, heavy acidity, alcohol and nutty, caramel malt flavor. Medium to full bodied, creamy texture, alchohilc palate.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hand bottled... Murky brown ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. The aroma is sweet and spicy with earthy notes as well; caramel, cinnamon, ash and deep roasted malts. Tangy, sweet flavor with hearty malt, spice, orange peel and warming alcohol. Earthy hops, but low bitterness. Medium to full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and restrained carbonation. Finishes tangy and sweet. A million thanks to moejuck for providing the sample!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sample acquired in trade with moejuck (thanks!). Poured a deep, murky brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Subdued aromas of oranges, caramel, and spices (I’m getting cinammon and light ginger). Stong orange peel begins the tastes that give way to ginger, toffee, citrus, light cinammon, nutmeg, honey, and I’m getting some dark fruits in there as well. A lot going on once you get past the orange peel. Even a few minutes after my last sip, I can still smell & taste the orange peels. I would have never guessed this puppy was over 11% as i was not getting any alcohol in it at all.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
This beer absolutely rocks. It is honestly better than the "standard" lower-ABV Christmas Ale. Draught version: Hazy dark orange with a thin beige head and decent lacing. Aroma of cinnamon, hops and malt. Warming flavor of alcohol and malt. Cask-conditioned version: This is the pinnacle of Christmas brews as far as I am concerned. An absolutely fantastic brew that has all of the qualities mentioned above. This version pours a more hazy unfiltered color and a thicker head. Flavor is much more mellow and warming, with the alcohol and spices just oozing out. Excellent!

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(On tap Real Ale Fest - Chicago) Aroma of sweet honey and ginger. Body is fairly complex with good balance between the variety of spices and the sweet mellow malts. Smooth finish with a little alcoholic burn, but overall it masks its abv well. A fine winter warmer.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Post-EBF at Clark’s. Very deep dark brown, generous tan head. Roasty Baltic porter like aroma. Very spicy, allspice, anise, blackberries and earthy dark soil aroma. This seems very good at first, but the palate didn’t keep up, tartish and sweetish on a vegetal background. Shallot and tobacco messing around grapes and spices. Light-medium body doesn’t feel like it’s all there. I fear this has lost some, but this is one of the best alcohol hiding job ever!

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Another hand bottled beer from CaptainCougar. Thanks. Pours a light ruby color with no head. Very malty aroma with oats, nutmeg and allspice. The taste is very light and sweet with a hint of apples. I had trouble getting any other tastes.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a moderate to deep amber with a thin white head, and some spotty lace. Aroma is tons of ginger and some orange zest, herbal tea and flowery. More tea flavors, ginger root, earth, crystal malt, alcohol isnt too apparant despite the 11+%. Not that great.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the Smokehouse. Clear amber pour with a thin beige head. Heavily spiced aroma of ginger, cinnamon and sweet malt. Sweet malt flavor with ginger, cinnamon and honey with clean, semi-dry finish. Exactly what I want for this style: lots of spice but finishes clean and dry enough that you can drink a couple.
