ultraspank (856), Dublin, Ohio, USA Nov 28, 2002 Had this at the Smokehouse. Big spicy nose of ginger and cinnamon, very similar to their Chrismas Ale but more robust. Pours a dark ruby brown with a creamy white head that has good lacing. High octane flavor you would expect from such a high gravity brew. Exceptionally warm and deep. The flat body is full and oily and finishes very alcoholic. Dogbrick (2214), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 7, 2002 This beer absolutely rocks. It is honestly better than the "standard" lower-ABV Christmas Ale. Draught version: Hazy dark orange with a thin beige head and decent lacing. Aroma of cinnamon, hops and malt. Warming flavor of alcohol and malt. Cask-conditioned version: This is the pinnacle of Christmas brews as far as I am concerned. An absolutely fantastic brew that has all of the qualities mentioned above. This version pours a more hazy unfiltered color and a thicker head. Flavor is much more mellow and warming, with the alcohol and spices just oozing out. Excellent! bluemeow76 (685), Lewis Center, Ohio, USA Dec 9, 2002 This is an awesome beer! It really is incredible - if you are anywhere within a couple hours drive to Columbus - come try this beer! The draught version was my favorite. Nice rich amber color, mild smooth spicey flavor. The head dissipated quickly, nice lacing left. The glass I had from the firkin was very cloudy and strong on the alcohol flavor. The firkin version takes a long time to drink - the draught version I practically guzzled since it was so good - which left me with a buzz before I was halfway through. This beer is amazing! iwantalambic (1356), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Mar 9, 2003 Cask at the RAF 2003: Sweet Christmas candy: I had my own sugar plums fairy right in the glass! Shaved cinnamon with orange zest. Hot chocolate with marshmellows by a warm fire, surrounded by loads of presents . . . this beer embodies an essential part of the Christmas season: great memories. edden (907), cow- lumbus, Ohio, USA Dec 28, 2002 12/23/02: on cask at the smokehouse. good size head, which diminishes to a very thin line. no lacing. light mahogany colour. not hoppy (a good thing!) a little bit spicy, tastes include hints of cinnamon and a bit perfumy. for some reason i did notice a small tinny taste (i rated the flavor points lower for this.) great aftertaste (perfect score on palate points for this.) overall, some pretty yummy stuff! i’m thankful that columbus has a good brewery like Barley’s!
