Barnikel Rauchbier Rauchzart

Botle at Hagges Bärsklubb German beer festival (2005?). Thin fluffy head over an amber beer, almost as if you had a real ale. Smoky aroma that is realy plesant. Small body with a small bitterness.

From bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a fully diminished white head. Dense smoked to rubberish aroma. Too much. Light malty with a distinct eel like smoked flavour and aroma is too dominant for me. Smoked and dry finish with a distinct bonfire smoked note.

5.4%. Good wood fire aroma. Cloudy light brown colour. Small head. The flavour has a lot of wood fire, old charcoal. Quite nice, but gets a little citric in the finish and after a while even sour.

Bottle@InDeWildemanAmsterdam. Strong smoke between burning tires and smoked sausage. Cloudy, brown color, beige head, good lace. Sweet, smoked, light malty, hints of cola and toffee, brown sugar, dried dark fruit. Bit thinnish but very flavorful.

Bottle. Copper colour, thin off-white head. Malty aroma. Starts with notes of malt before the smoke sets in. Rather mild finish. A Rauchbier for people who find Schlenkerla too smokey.

Coppery colored, cloudy appearance. Little yellow head. Nice smoked aroma with sweet hops and some biting lemon. Medium bodied. Flavor is disappointment: watery palate with some biting lemon, smoke vanishes almost totally after nice aroma. Aftertaste turns to bitingly sour with some lemon. Surprise how much flavor differs from aroma.

Butterscotch is quite notable but blends well with smoke, wood and sulfur in the chalky, lightly metallic aroma. Opaque brown body is topped by a low tan head that lasts and laces. Sour. Dusty, chalky, metallic. Not good words to be starting with. Butterscotch. Uh-oh. Caramel, smoke, berries... mere afterthoughts. Very dry and light with sharp, pointy carbonation. Astringent. Bottle sampled with MartinT, muzzlehatch and Olivier MTL.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a clear, orangey brown with an off-white head. Extreme - almost tar like - smoke aroma. Medium body a bit on the watery side. Weak caramel notes completely overpowered by the fat, baconish smoke flavours. Underlying tartness - Barnikel clearly has an infection problem with their bottled beers. 091106
