An attractive copper red malty beer with a delicious roasted coffee aftertaste - faithful to the bitter end

Bottled, 500ml from Booths at Poulton, Lancs. Chestnut with slight head. The beer is heavy in roasted malts giving coffee and burnt notes to the palate. There is a light acidity which seems at odds with the type of beer, with a prune like flavour. Some sweetish vanilla in the close. Odd but drinkable.

Bottle from Bernie's Solihull. Dark brown clear pour with a thin white head and patchy lacing. A lovely classic northern bitter, nicely balanced hoppy taste with coffee notes. A surprising find! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

50cl bottle from rythym & booze, Conisbrough. No head. Clear dark amber pour. Nice grapefruit bitterness. Pity about the lack of carbonation

Aug 2009: The Wentworth brewery are producing a range of affordable beers for the Barnsley Beer Company, this is the first I’ve reviewed so far. The brown 500ml bottle has a bright eye catching label (as do all the range of beers). The beer poured a Redwood tree red, it was clear and bright, if it had been a sunny day it would have sparkled. Sadly only a cream coloured wisp of a head appeared on the beer, it still looked good though. I was suprised by the aroma, roasted coffee and dark chocolate came to my nose. The taste followed the smell with the aftertaste being even stronger giving hints of burnt dark chocolate and a rich coffee flavour. The thin body seemed to lack depth, even though the flavours were strong and 4.6% is fairly high for a UK bitter, even a special. From my thoughts on the taste and aroma you’d expect a creamy, rich texture, but this was not the case at all. Overall I enjoyed it, only the no show of a head and the poor body intensity let it down. I hope the rest in my stash score as well.

Bottled@Chriso "Rock The Roof Down" pre-gbbf shindig. Amber colour with a small slightly off-white bubbly head. Aroma is caramel malts, some grass and floral hops. Flavour is grass, floral notes as well as a bunch of maltyness. Wellbalanced and quite pleasantly balanced ESB.

Bottled. A brown beer with an off-white head. The aroma has notes of citrusy hops and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, straw, and citrus fruits.

[3217-20100731] Bottle. Light fruity grains aroma. Clear, dark amber body with a quick bubbly head. More grainy alcohol in the flavour. Medium body. Not too interesting, poor.

Bottle from B and M Brierley Hill. Bronze and poured with a bighead that dissipatd slowly. Slightly acidic with a bitter finnish. Not one of their best.
