3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Red brown colour with decent lacing. Aroma is quite malty but also has a bit of ’green’ hop. Flavour is quite rich and malty but has a pleasant hop bitterness in the finish. On the downside there’s a slight metallic aftertaste.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml bottle. Pours slightly cloudy deep brown with absolutely no head. Fairly generic malty aroma. Robust malt is pretty well balanced with bitterness. A little smoke and toffee. Nothing particularly special but an enjoyable brown ale.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Jan 2010: 500ml Brown bottle poured twice into a ’La Chouffe’ stemmed tulip glass.
Good dark reddy brown beer, the tan coloured head sets the brown ale off nicely. The body is almost clear, just a slight mist stops it being so. Lacing stayed as the beer dropped down the glass.
German hops (?) are used to give it an aroma according to the label, I was unable to pick them up with my nose. The beer had more of a malted bread and biscuit smell to me.
The beer is fairly bitter, the malt content keeping it on the straight and narrow in the brown ale flavour stakes. Three different grains are used, barley and wheat being two of them, don’t know what the third one is.
The label suggests eating Trotters, Cow heel, Pig’s bladder and Elder with this beer. Tongue in cheek I hope. A good English cheese platter would be my choice.
Easy to drink and uncomplicated, a good beer for the price.
