A fairly straightforward pale amber coloured best bitter. Crisp, clean and noticeably bitter. Lemony citrus in the flavour. Refreshing. Nothing particularly out of the ordinary, but a pretty good supping ale. I could certainly sink a few of these. Cask (handpump), Cats Back, Wandsworth, February 2005.

tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - OCT 3, 2011
First tasted this at the Renfrew Beer Festival in September 1997. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear amber in colour with a thin white head. Dusty hops in the short floral aroma. Thin mouthfeel and poor lacing. Pale malts give a juicy citric bite of grapefruit and lemon peel. Dusty hop resins give a dry bitterness to the short aftertaste. Finish is again bitter and dry. An ok session IPA but better examples out there.

Cask Stillage at the Union Bar, Barnsley 17/08/2002 Golden amber coloured and very fruity. Some dryness in the hoppy finish.

Aug, 2003: Cask, Queens head, Chelmsford. Soapy floral lemon aroma. Hoppy taste - lots of interesting citric twists, though body and finish merge together in an indistinguishable mess. Hoppy, but lack of malt body results in lack of interest and control. [2.8]
Feb, 2004: The Great Wenlock Meet Up. Slight orange flavour. Not much going on. [2.8]
Feb, 2005: Cats Back, Wandsworth. Delightful fresh and hoppy. Lingering hop finish. A spanking good ale. [3.6]

Slightly hazy copper, lasting white head. Quite a hoppy aroma. Clean malts balanced with a nice citric hoppy finish. Medium bodied. Nice.

Sulfury nose. Flatish. Warm round, but thin malt body. Twinge of hops. Clean palate. Respectible, but not much character.

Cask Conditioned, at the Wenlock Arms, London. Very english - ahm as an IPA ;) Light nose, butterscotch taste. Not much going on here, decent but nothing special

Like a hoppier bitter. Lots of citrusy bitter hops, with a decent malty front and middle, but the emphasis is more on the hops, nice and bitter (Cask- Queens Head, Chelmsford).

Yellow color, though not blond. Good burst of hops, perfume aroma, citric bite. Nice UK IPA--this one was really attempt to brew an IPA, though it isn't a complete success. (cask at Queen's Head pub, Chelmsford)

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2003 Cask Conditioned, at the Wenlock Arms,
Back to the programme. Good all round beer golden, no head. Nice malt and hop. The notes begin to fade as I have a drink with the band. 5 of 7.
Re-rate (WA) 10/10/03.Quite clearly I was mad when first rated this because this beer was outselling 'bitter & twisted' tonight. Myself assisting with four pints of my own, 2 assists. Quite simply this hoppy feast was on fire tonight. Big and forward.
