glkaiser (999), Seattle, Washington, USA May 5, 2008 Light, murky brown with no head. Sweet, almost spicy aroma. Lots of caramel sweetness in the taste. The alcohol is hidden insanely well. Quite smooth, and actually lacks much of a punch at all and the taste fades. Not sure how you make a 13% beer this light, but they did. I commend the effort, but really just don’t enjoy it all that much. Can’t see it getting much better with age either.
dalekliz (206), San Diego, California, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bottle. Thanks to WeeHeavySD for sharing. Pours a hazy brownish-amber. Sweet malt aroma with fruit notes. Taste is also sweet, of malt and fruit. The alcohol is nicely hidden. Good carbonation and pleasant lingering crisp sweetness. Nice eisbock. acrdz (4364), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jun 26, 2008 22oz bottle from John’s Marketplace in Portland. Hazy dark brown and wheat colored body. Nose of faint and dusty, minerally yeast, boozy alcohol and wet bread with a touch of over-ripened oranges. Flavor is bran, corn, toast, booze, heavy caramel and chewy, soggy old and damp grains, a little putrid even, finishing with some sweet corn and heavy caramel. Not good at all, sorry to say. It’s a boozy caramel apple mess. argo0 (6230), Washington DC, USA Jun 25, 2008 (22oz bottle, thanks acrdz) Small off-white head atop cloudy dark amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, some cherry, syrup. Taste is sweet, caramel, some cherry. Sticky full body, minimal carbonation. kmweaver (2121), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Jun 25, 2008 22oz bottle, courtesy of acrdz. Thanks, Mike! Pours a hazy, dull orange color; minimal off-white head. Basic sugar, dried fruits, overripe fruits, and wet malts in the aroma. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: relaxed carbonation; chewy dried fruits, basic sugary malts; decently tasty, and minimal alcohol showing through, surprisingly; but not a whole lot here for the level of alcohol Medium finish: breadiness, dried fruits, and some sugar. DA (2468), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Jun 9, 2008 I was pretty excited to find this at the bottle shop, but I am really let down. Tastes and smells like unfermented wort, sweet and just bad. Not much to it, thin on the palate, i’m not really sure how to describe it other then stick your nose over your homebrew pot (before the hops) as you’re brewing and thats kinda how it smells and tastes. Sad and expensive, and I don’t remember any beers that have cost this much and not enjoyed to this level. Maybe something happened with this batch? I’m not sure, but I’m not sure I’m willing to pay to find out.
