COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed for Barons Brewing by AIB
http://www.baronsbrewing.com

The first beer released is the Wattle Seed Ale, which starts with a blend of Australian and European malts, creating a rich flavour base of caramel with a hint of chocolate. The smooth malt flavours are lightly hopped and then infused with roasted Wattle Seed, bringing a unique and authentic Australian flavour to this fine red ale. The result is an outstanding ale that boasts a smooth taste profile balancing its robust character, an ultimately rewarding yet distinctive beer. Native Range. Formerly Barons Black Wattle Superior Wattle Seed Ale.

Ernest (6597) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 21, 2008
Bottle (BB Apr/08). Head is initially small, frothy/fizzy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark amber. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted grain, nuts, cookie), lightly hoppy (herbs, apricot), with a light note of gum. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Rather nondescript; an ordinary amber ale. Ok.

5000 (6300) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - JAN 2, 2010
Bottle:   Burnt caramel, quite translucent, no head, no lacing, this one appears as if its still.   Spicy nose, some honey, a little cereal and mash.   Blech, another average brew from Barons.   Definitely on the malty side, minor sweetness, cereal, aformentioned honey.   Flat on the tongue, otherwise moderate body, albeit leaning towards the thin side.   Sweetness lingers, some honey, and again with the cereal.   Very mealy beers they make.   What is Wattle Seed anyway?   Didn’t seem to make for all that interesting of a beer.   Needs some hops to balance it out.   Ugh...

AmEricanbrew (6231) - Same Trailer, Different Park, Louisiana, USA - AUG 22, 2008
Clear amber with a tight head. Mildly sweet honey caramel aroma. Medium body. Decent flavors are mildly sweet pale malts with an earthy bitter grain flavor from the wattle seed i presume. A good hot weather brew.

bottle, slightly darker than an amber ale, nose and flavors are nutty, woody, malts with some dark roast character as well, better than expected

PorterPounder (6044) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - AUG 9, 2007
Tallahassee, Fl. - Publix Supermarkets - 12 oz bottle. Pours a medium copper that sports a somewhat quickly fading off-white head. Pleasant, earthy aroma with hints of mild licorice, baker’s chocolate. Nutty flavor, some earthiness, caramel, and just a hint of chocolate. Mouthfeel is on the thin side - but crisp enough. Pleasantly suprised - glad, because I bought a whole six!

Braudog (5975) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - APR 27, 2008
Bottle. Poured a reddish brown, yet light, clear and transluscent. The aroma is almost nutty, lightly carameled. It drinks with a moderately sweet roast, and a hard-to-peg herbalness. Quaffable. (#3438, 4/27/2008)

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2008 Personal Milestone: My First Wattle Seed Ale Rating (out of 4040)!!!!!
My dictionary informs me that a Wattle is an Australian Acacia. Never had an Acacia seed before, either, that I’m aware of. The body’s a deep copper color and it’s capped by a modest ecru head. The aroma holds some caramel, a bit of dry chocolate, and corncob. Very smooth with a thick wheaty creaminess. The flavor has a tad more chocolate and a very light mint taste that lasts long into the finish. Pretty decent. I think I’ll plant a Wattle in my yard.
