COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Special - Autumn 2008
For this JDW beer festival, we welcome our first Australian guest brewer who will be re-creating one of his speciality beers for us at Banks’s brewery, in Wolverhampton. Flavoured by native Australian-roasted wattle seed, this multi award-winning ale has a rich amber colour and a base malt flavour of toffee and caramel, with hints of hazelnut and chocolate, supplied by this unusual ingredient. It’s a full-bodied beer which is surprisingly smooth, with an amazing silky finish. Hops used: East Kent Goldings, Fuggles

cask at JDW edinburgh ...WELL FIRST OFF LETS JUST SAY I LIKED THIS WAY MORE THAN THE AVERAGE ... amber ... light malt light hazelnut nose ... mellow fruity malts ... some toffee... ligth chocolate ... and hazelnut ... TK2 as i defintly wanted a 2nd the next day ... very nutty very tasty ... could see the nuttyness getting too much over several pints.

Doppelganger (1383) - Dry County, Arkansas, USA - DEC 30, 2008
Cask, The Four Candles, Oxford. Warm copper, dense light tan head. Slightly sulfury nose, a bit of vague spice. Smells a little like the spice drawer in my mom’s kitchen, where every known spice is present but most of them aging into soft vagueness. Pleasant overall, but without any clear focus. Softly sweet malt, a touch of mineral in the finish. Less distinctive than I’d hoped for.

Cask in the cross keys and the new crown. Malty, bready, old cellar, slightly mouldy, some dry grassy hop. Not good!

Another lost Spoonsfest rate. So unimpressed by this one I gave it to Octo. Watery chocolate and toasted nut stillness. Needed some roast or hops to balance the weirdness. Odd and empty, verging on the unpleasant.

(Cask at Crosse Keys JDW, London City, 20 Nov 2008) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, nutty nose with dried fruit, caramel and sugar or honey. Malty, nutty taste with notes of dried fruit, prunes and caramel. Low bitterness with the hops disappearing in the sweet and nutty malt. Medium body, fairly sweet. Interesting, not bad, but hardly amazing. In short: sweet caramel with roasted nuts.
