COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Special - April 2009. Brewed for the JD Wetherspoon beer festival.
This dark ale has a smooth, roasted malt flavour and silky mouthfeel, courtesy of the oatmeal used. The sly nightshade berry is a native Australian bush tomato which imparts muscaty raisin-like notes and a savoury finish to this unique beer. Hops used: Fuggles, Northdown

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Dark brown with tan head. I feel let down with my version, it was tired, even though it only came on during the previous evening and really quite disappointing. Some fruitiness with a touch of roasted malt, but really quite dull. Darn it, I want the good stuff.

Clear but very dark brown beer. Fairly soft palate but a little dry. No bitterness or roastiness. Nice red fruit and malt coming through at the end. A real grower this one.

A Mes rate. Cask handpull at Baker Street ’Sporks.
Excellent mahogany black with a good beige head and lots of chunky lace. Whisky malt aroma with some chocolate and maybe a hint of roasted coffee. Flavour the same with a hint of wholemeal bread and a decent bitterness in the finish. Plenty of body and a nice dryness in the finish. All the ingredients are there, it just fails to really hit the mark. The whisky notes are what are doing it for sure. Comes across more Bells than Caol Ila...

Handpulled cask at JDW Hatch End, Harrow. Deep brown with an off white head. A subtle dark ale with lots of Banks’s house characturistics. Very little roastiness and more caramel in the sugars profile. Nice peppery hops in the finish.

Cask (handpump) @ The Bankers Draft, 1–3 Market Place, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England S1 2GH.
Clear dark dark brown color with a average, creamy, excellent lacing, fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, chocolate, raisin - bush berry. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Easy and very drinkeable. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20090418]

Cask, Last Plantagenet, Leicester. Near black with a beige head. Aromas are light roast malts with lactose. Quite creamy. Flavours are sweet coffee with cream. Winter fruit with metallic notes. Herbal on the finish and surprisingly medicinal. Dry on the finish.

The pump clip at The Flying Horse JDW, Gatwick Airport said 5% abv. Thin, beige head resting over a very dark brown body. Aroma of dark berries. Comprehensive taste of sweet berries, raisin added by spiced and smoked malts. Some excitements, but with the lack of bitterness it gets too sweet on the swallow (05.05.2009).

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Deep blackcurrant purple colour with a thin tan head; vaguely fruity aroma; thin bodied with some berry fruit flavour; sweet finish. Disappointing.

Cask in the new crown and in the alfread herring. Alround rating: Chocolate malts are key, theres a nice berry acidity, some blueberry and tomato acidity, earthy hop character is nice and not out of place. An excellent porter alround.

(Cask at Penderel’s Oak JDW, Holborn, London, 15 Apr 2009) Dark colour with ruby hints and frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark fruit and coffee. Malty, fruity taste with dark fruit, wild berries and roasted hints of coffee. Not very bitter, fairly sweet. A bit weird, but the combination of roasted coffee and wild berries works quite well. Nice one.
