Rizzo (11), Australia May 2, 2007 Great drinkable beer. Had this on tap at the Royal in Paddington. Bright pale gold beer with creamy white head. Aroma of tropical fruit, pear. More hop fruit flavour, malt sweetness, dry finish. Not over done (good for a session) but interesting enough to have just one. Aurelius (2507), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 31, 2007 Slightly peaty, sweaty-cigaretty-Betty aroma with some lemon. Great bottle, slightly orange-tinged gold, fairly large head on the initial pour. Pretty balanced and drinkable. This is an interesting brew that’s a mix of classic and modern, in terms of PA flavors. A little grapefruit rind, fruity, moderate hopping - but not too bitter. A slightly chemical citrus finish with some off flavors in the high palate. I’ve liked the three brews that I’ve had from this brewery so far. Let this be my last rating for August 2007, since it’s 11:45 pm. RblWthACoz (959), Brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 3, 2008 Pours gold with a sizeable white head. Decent lace on the way down. Nose is basically like a bland lager. Kind of metallic with a slight dirty tone to it. At best I get a slight touch of apple on there, but just the skins I would venture to say. Flavor is decent. Mild hop body to it, but not very much really. I would say this is some mild lager in a blind test. Feel is nice on the liquid and carbonation. This is extremely drinkable and goes down very easily. The profile is smooth and even and never wavered when I was going with it. Definitely a session brew. But as far as being a craft brew with loads of character, this really isn’t it. Definitely worth trying though.
cking (731), North Canton, Ohio, USA May 16, 2008 My 2nd selection from this recently stocked Aussie brewer. Like their Wattle Seed Ale, this Pale Ale has a unique character that I find refreshing. Very light copper pour, almost a dark gold. Fluffy, bright white head and moderate lacing. Foreign floral aroma with notes of butter and wood. Malty mouth feel, medium bodied with a slight bitter kick. Tasty and light with a good malt flavor of fresh grains and flowers. A tendency toward some sturdy noble hops, very green with some minor fruit aspects. It takes a few to appreciate what’s being offered. ChainGangGuy (1602), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Nov 3, 2007 ($1.99 11.2oz bottle @ Total Wine in Kennesaw, GA).
Appearance: Pours a crystal clear, light copper body with a foamy, white head.
Smell: Aroma of pale malts with notes of lemongrass, garlic, apricots, sea salt, and yeast.
Taste: Light pale malt flavor with a hint of salted breadcrusts. Very subtle sweetness. Apricot fruitiness. Cooked garlic note. Mild herbal hop bitterness which lasts into the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Not all that bad. In fact, it’s ok! Paired well with the movie Creepshow.
