merlin48 (509), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA Sep 2, 2007 22 oz bottle pours a clear chestnut body with a large beige head. Aroma of grapefruity hops, chocolate, and caramel. Taste follows suit, with some roasty notes joining the grapefruit, caramel, and chocolate. Tasty and quite drinkable. A chocolate IPA? kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 04/26/2007

takes two foaming glasses to make a pint, hazy dark ruby red, big dense beige head, drippy lace,
light caramel malt aroma with light floral hops,
creamy body,
rich dark caramel malt flavor, lots of balancing earthy hops, munich malt adds sweetness, touch of chocolate adds character as it grows richer, lots of rich and complex malt flavor balanced by a combination of hops, long light bitter finish, very light dyactyl shows at the end to blend with the milk chocolate and add an English quality,

a great hoppy chocolate IPA, no dyactyl, sweetness brings out the chocolate and gets a bit sticky after a while, well balanced by lots of hops, the next generation of the india brown ale style,

BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Aug 31, 2007 Thanks to Joebrew for sharing. Brown color with faint head. Light hoppy nose. Grainy body with citrus hop finish.
hopdog (5527), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 30, 2007 22oz bottles acquired in trades with shigadeyo & mreusch (thanks!). Poured a deeper mahogany color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, citrus, butterscotch candies, and some pine. The caramel and butterscotch dominate. Tastes of caramel, citrus, and a little earthy. Malts dominate with the hoppiness taking a back seat. Alcohol well hidden. Weaker body. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Aug 30, 2007 A 22 oz bomber shared by joebrew, pours a dark semi-hazy brown amber brew with a light tan head that quickly dissolves to a fine film and ring. Aroma of caramel malt, vanilla, some grapefruit and toffee. Taste is medium bodied, lightly carbonated with flavors of caramel malt, some grapefruit zest, vanilla and some earthy spices. Finish is somewhat slick, semi-sweet with a caramel aftertaste. Not much of an IPA character but more of a dark American Ale. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 29, 2007 Bottle. Dark, caramel-ey colored pour with a oily cream colored head. Barley wine like ale - creamy, with vanilla, oak, bourbon, and lots of sweet malt and some hops. Pretty flat in the flavor department, but easy to drink considering the ABV. All the complexity of the aroma is missing in the flavor, but it’s not horrible. Oily on the palate. Not great, but not awful. badgerben (3586), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Aug 28, 2007 Shared at Joebrew’s BBQ; courtesy of Joebrew, I think. Mahogany color with a large head. Aroma of stale alcohol. Strong toasted malt and caramel taste. Slight hop bitterness towards the finish, but more Earthy hop than citrus. Doesn’t taste like any kind of IPA, but not bad at all. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Aug 19, 2007 Great looking pour, a clear brownish red with a creamy beige head. The aroma is toffee, butterscotch, and apples with solid pine, floral, and grassy hop scents. The big malty flavor is toffee with a bit of butterscotch coupled with a mouthful of hop bitterness that relects those found in the nose. It’s not as big as I’d expected, but sturdy enough to satisfy this hophead. Not bad.
