Commercial Description:
In the early 20th century, Cincinnati was presided over by the strong armed political power broker George "Boss" Cox. Holding court high above an Over-The-Rhine saloon, "Boss" Cox's authoritative grip on the city could often be relaxed with a smoked sausage and a hearty brew. Our Double Dark IPA infuses a bold, delicious malty character with copious amounts of American and European hop bitterness. There's a new boss in town. Malts: 2-row, Munich, Carapils, and Caramel ;Hops: Cluster, Cascade, Czech Saaz ;Color: Ruby ;Food Complement: Steak, prime rib, venison, spicy dishes

22 oz bomber thanks to Alexsdad06. Pours a deep amber- clear with a fluffy beige head. Aroma is citrus and pine hops- hints of columbus and cascadek., with a light sweetness- pungent cluster as well with a surprisingly subdued catpiss and earth that sometimes comes from cluster. Sharp almost tangy dark caramel sweetness similar to that of a Arrogant Bastard, with the same hop intensity of the cascade citrusness, but without a strong harsh smokey bitterness of chinook that you get in AB. Has a wierd lemony aftertaste and a smooth finish. Easy drinking- nice amber IPA.

Clear mahogany with a moderate head, average at best lacing and retention. Aroma is lighty hopped and has notes of caramel, chocolate and woody malts. Sweet finish with a medium body. Not enough hops, too sweet and dark to be considered an IPA, or a double dark IPA or whatever they called it. No thanks.

Some decent hops to this one,but abit of malt makes it very drinkable, some slight sweetness, and dark fruit help it abit, very drinkable, ok flavor. thanks to cewldre for the brew.

Aroma was some light citrus and a stong caramel maltiness to this. Flavor was rich malty caramel and a light alcohol to this. Not to bad but this is definitely not an ipa. Probably a little too sweet also. This is one that could actually be put in the ale category because it doesnt hoppy enough to be a IPA. And this is definitely not pale.

A Brach’s dark caramel color beer with some lacing. A fairground aroma,; wet straw after a rain between the stalls. Dont know why dark is better for this style except for marketing. For this type of beer; very weak body and any other characteristics. A nice label I suppose.

Pours a dark brown color with an off-white head. Aroma is of citrus hops, plenty of sweet malts, and caramel. Flavor is the same with a lingering bitter flavor. Not nearly as hoppy as I like my IPA’s. It was decent at best.

Draft at the Taste of Cincinnati festival. Dark brown body topped by a thin but creamy head. Inviting, malty aroma. Flavor like crystal malt, caramel, soft hops. Very creamy, goes down incredibly easy. A little darker and stronger than typical IPAs. I had never heard of this brewer or beer before and decided to try this on a whim. Was very pleasantly surprised. Highly recommended.

On tap at BrewKettle in Strongsville. Very dark for an IPA (guess that’s why it’s double dark!). Aroma is more sweet and malty than hoppy; maybe a little grapefruit. Deep brownish red color, offwhite head. Sweet maltyness with chocolate and then a dry citrus hop. Very odd, not sure that I’d call it an IPA
