Commercial Description:
In the early 20th century, Cincinnati was presided over by the strong armed political power broker George "Boss" Cox. Holding court high above an Over-The-Rhine saloon, "Boss" Cox's authoritative grip on the city could often be relaxed with a smoked sausage and a hearty brew. Our Double Dark IPA infuses a bold, delicious malty character with copious amounts of American and European hop bitterness. There's a new boss in town. Malts: 2-row, Munich, Carapils, and Caramel ;Hops: Cluster, Cascade, Czech Saaz ;Color: Ruby ;Food Complement: Steak, prime rib, venison, spicy dishes

#100. On cask at Dilly Deli. The Dilly’s beer man, Peanut, ordered this special cask version with an additional pound and a half of Cascade hops. Dark amber color with a small head. Aroma of sweet malts with a distinct, almost unpleasant, yeasty smell. Initial flavor is sweet carmel malts with maple and some fruit. The finish is dry hop bitterness, presumably stronger than others have noted due to the additional hops. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Certainly not a near-perfect beer, but one of Cincinnati’s best and most unique brews.

Bottle purchased at Rozi’s in Lakewood. Seriously, wtf is that smell? IT is kinda beery- kinda waxy- and reminds me of this godawful liquor call Pitu... Seriously, this just smells weird. No aromatic hop sweetness, just a little weird ass earthy notes. The pour was attractive, dark copper color with a huge white foamy head that went away quickly. Flavor is...wait, what flavor? Seriously, I just had a Brooklyn Monster Ale and the flavor from that one still is better than this one. I feel kinda bad, I like Cincinnati- I used to live there- but dear god thank god there are better brews coming out of Ohio. This $5 spot would have been better spent on a double bastard.

Darker amber color with a malty aroma that features somd heavy sugar and mild citrus hops. Flavor has some citrus hops and sugary/cereal-ish malts but is unimpressive. Needs to be more balanced to be good.

Pours a wonderful dark amber/brown with a white head. Mell is sweet and taste overall too. Floating yeast and overall smoothness make this "Boss Brew" an overall winner.

22oz bottle bought in Kentucky. This is a style that I’d think more prevalent, but I suppose it is a tad oxymoronic. Unassuming, non-aroma. Dark, cloudy brown amber color. The taste is quite mellow for the ABV, with the dark malt complementing the alcohol and hops quite well. Some chocolate toffee notes. Not overly aggressive with the hops, the dry hopping seems to add just the right balance. Great beer, recommended.

Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours a deep dark amber with beige head. Aroma of brown sugar, citrus, dark fruit. Flavor is sweet, malty, dark roast, caramel, hoppy. Medium body, med-high carbonation. Pretty good stuff.

Tried on growler from Party Town. Pours a deep dark amber with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet, with citrus and dark fruits. The flavor is very malty for an IPA, it also is sweeter than expect. The finish is bitter and hoppy though. A very good beer worth trying.
