Commercial Description:
In the early 20th century, Cincinnati was presided over by the strong armed political power broker George "Boss" Cox. Holding court high above an Over-The-Rhine saloon, "Boss" Cox's authoritative grip on the city could often be relaxed with a smoked sausage and a hearty brew. Our Double Dark IPA infuses a bold, delicious malty character with copious amounts of American and European hop bitterness. There's a new boss in town. Malts: 2-row, Munich, Carapils, and Caramel ;Hops: Cluster, Cascade, Czech Saaz ;Color: Ruby ;Food Complement: Steak, prime rib, venison, spicy dishes

Dark in color but still transparent. Aroma is grassy, piney, alcohol. Flavor is pretty much the same with the alcohol coming through a little to strong, spicy hop bite, with a heavy malt body. Dark and bitter is a good description. Nothing exceptional.

Poured a dark amber with a fizzy/frothy off-white head. Aroma is surprisingly light, concerning the words "double" and "ipa" are in the title of this beer. Some light notes of grass and pine needles wrap around a subtle sweetness of honey wheat toast. Pleasant, though probably a tad too subtle for the style. Flavor starts bitter and dry with some fresh cut grass, pine needles, grapefruit rind... becoming slightly sweeter throughout the mouthfeel, allowing in some light sweet honey bread with a touch of strawberry. The maltiness feels like its trying to bridge the gap between an ipa and a barleywine, but I’m not confident it’s making it. Decent for sure, but a tad too subtle with not nearly enough citrus in the hop flavor for it to stand out. I would call this a decent first attempt, and I hold out hope that the brewer will aspire to produce similar but more finely crafted brews in the future.

Bomber. Clear ruby red with a thick biege lasting head. Not much to the aroma. A bit of fruit. A bit of pine. A bit of caramel. But all very restrained. There’s a little bit more to the flavor. Caramel and some berry. Spicy bitterness. Medium body with lots of carbonation, and a semi sweet finish. Not really bad, but just kind of lack luster.

Pours a pure copper with 3 fingers of head that dies pretty quick. Very dark for an IPA but it is a self proclaimed double dark IPA. The nose fools you. You get the rush of hops but it is a different hop profile than you expect. Not so much citrus, more of a wet dog/ slightly fruity hop profile. A little dried fruit. Very bitter finish but not the traditional IPA hop finish, its the different hop finish. Medium and crisp in the mouth with a lot of carbonation. This was a little tough to finish. I could see someone liking this different style but going to have to be an aquired taste for me.

Fruity hop /caramel aroma, taste is a somewhat muddled sweet malt and more hop bitterness then flavor, has a spiked black tea aftertaste, just didn’t measure up to the promise of that very intriguing name

Poured a clear deep red with an off-white head. The aroma was malt dominant with a good amount of caramel and fruits. Apples, raisins, and browned fruits. The flavor picks up the hops. Fruity and malty with some warmth. Tastes like a baby barleywine. I find it pretty tasty. Hoppy and mildly bitter finish. Medium to full body.

22 oz. bottle from moejuck, thanks for this! Pours a dark yet clear ruddy brown, with a moderate beige head that leaves little to no lace. The aroma is milder than expected, revealing toasty/roasty with hints of dark ripe fruit, floral hops and a bit of earth. Flavor features somewhat fruity malts, with plentiful, pungent hops, ripe citrus rind, dusty herbs and scorched pine - alcohol is well masked. Medium to full body and crispy-creamy carbonation. Interesting ale with the dark malts and bold hops, a bit reminiscent of Drakes Expedition, but not as well executed. Nonetheless, enjoyable.
