jgentgesdo (532), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA May 24, 2008 Pours clear brown with small brown head. Nose is malt, mostly caramel, no hops. Flavor is sweet caramel and molasses, very limited hops flavor, mild to moderate bitterness. Long caramel aftertaste. Really sweet, would have been cloying but I drank it alongside some chocolate cake.
Capa (719), Yokosuka, Japan Aug 17, 2008 Dark amber. Heavy malts, citrus and other fruit, light roasted malts in the aroma. I didn’t think the malts and hops blended well in the flavor and had a tough time drinking the entire bottle. Not a bad beer but I wish they chose a better hop-malt combination. jstraw (429), Oak Park, Illinois, USA Aug 14, 2008 Dark caramel with big, foamy tan head / Big malt and cooked fruit nose / Medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, touch of sweetness, with hops providing structure for bigger, dominating malts / Flavors of toasted malts, caramel and cooked, cloying grapefruit / Mediocre, with decent palate paired with clumsy flavor profile. dougblur (11), , Indiana, USA Jul 18, 2008 Aroma is very sweet.
Appearance is a caramel dark.
Flavor is very sweet and caramel. Ughsmash (2958), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jul 15, 2008 Bomber. Poured clear deeper ruddy brown with a sticky, well-retained cap of beige head.. looked quite nice. The aroma picked up a rich sweetness that I really enjoyed (chocolates, toasted caramel, and treacle) with drier pine and dark citrus hoppage.. the focus was really on the malts here, and I dug it. The flavor wasn’t quite as solid.. lots of residual sugar in the form of caramel and toffee, which was amplified by some rough alcohol (especially at the back).. bitterness was moderate with some herbal and dark fruity presence (but a defining or well-balanced character was never achieved).. finished warm and bitter. Medium-bodied with low carbonation and a slow, building bitterness throughout.. better in the aroma than the flavor. brentfeesh (896), Gadsden, Alabama, USA Jul 4, 2008 Updated: Jul 7, 2008This was a fine brew. 22oz sharde froma friend. Fairly dark and carameled colored with a solid and lasting head. The aroma is full of caramel and malt. Good stuff. The flavor is also good and makes me hapy to be an american. Caramel, candy, malt and some not so lacking hops. Best one yet from these guys
