COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Early Cincinnati brewers shipping their beers into Tennessee would generously hop their beer to prevent spoilage during the long, arduous trip over the Cumberland Trail. It’s been said that few barrels ever actually made it into Tennessee, as they were traded away for coonskin caps or simply enjoyed along the way! This classic India Pale Ale is a somewhat fruity brew, with an aggressive hop finish. To the hopheads of the world: we’ve brewed this one for you!

Delicious and fresh. Reddish color, beautiful frothy head, subdued but apparent carbonation. Great flavor and plenty of hops.

Barrelhouse was bought by Melanie Brewing Company in February ’05. Melanie closed the brewpub and is now brewing the beer at their Cincinnati brewery. I had this at an open house the brewery held last week. It’s as fine as ever (Barrelhouse’s brewmaster went with the new company, thank God). Medium brown color, fine hoppy aroma, aggressive but not overpowering hop flavor, superb balance, satisfying aftertaste. One of the very best IPAs I’ve had the privilege of drinking.

Aroma is floral, citrus, sweet, but bitter. Flavor is very much the same but with a bigger punch of hops than I was expecting. It also has a thick malt body. I didnt expect much out of this local brew, but I think it may be the best "pale ale" ive had yet. Id put it in the IPA category if I was blind tasting this. My first Barrel House brew, and so far I love them. WHO DEY!

Very strong and crisp pine/citrus hop aroma, the beer pours amber, with about a finger of white head that fades down to a cap, leaving sheets of lacing on the sides of the glass. Strong hop bitterness riding over a touch of caramel malts. Extremely long bitter finish. This is something I’m very impressed with at under $4 a bomber. Great session ale.

I had this one last night, served to me by Mike Cromie , the brewpub's beermaster. Although it had a nice burst of Cascade hops to its flavor, there really wasn't any strong body behind it.

Everyone at Bierkraft was raving about this one. So here goes. Pours a clear orange gold. Nose is hops. Perfumed pine ones with some citrus aspects in there too. Flavor is full and even. Consistent delivery of hoppy profile. Appropriate level of bitterness. Just a full body of flavor. Very good liquid body and the carbonation is very good as well. Overall, everyone at Bierkraft was right about this one. A very good APA that is definitely worth trying.

Bright copper pour with a dark red tint. Real thick lasting tan head and some decent lacing. Plenty of fresh hops in the aroma, flowery with crisp malts. Robust and full bodied, it’s a hearty pale ale with a nice hop bite. Flavor has a good balance, heavy malty body that is biscuity with some minor caramel. Lots of Cascade hops that lend generous fruity, flowery, and bitter flavors. This is very nice.

Bomber. Pours clear, deep golden color with a nice medium sized soapy white head with good retention and plentiful lace. Aroma is nice citrus like hops(Cascade?) on top of a toasted malt profile. Stylistically the aroma is right on and what I’d expect from this style. The hops are not intense but they are very pleasant - orange and grapefruit with just a touch of strawberry, very soft and not resiny. Just a really nice fresh, balanced aroma. Flavor is pretty much in line with the aroma. Appropriate bitterness, certainly present though not astringent or distracting. Toasty, slightly caramel like malt notes overshine the flavor hops, leaning more malty in the flavor where the hops were more present in the aroma, though there are some hops in the taste too. Body is pretty dry with a dry, long, slightly bitter finish. This is all around a great Pale Ale. Really similar to Sierra Nevada and maybe a touch better, certainly the apparent bitterness is more from my memory. This bottle was super fresh, it’s not bottle dated but I got it right when it was delivered to the store so my sample is probably a lot better than what some other people are drinking in the bottled form. But this is one of the best pales I’ve had and I think it’s pretty underrated.

Bottle: Copper color with a thin white head. Aroma lots of pale and caramel malts, along with citrusy and earthy hops. Flavor was divine, a light maltiness, to go with a crisp and refreshing earthy hop finish. A low enough abv that I could down this stuff by the gallon. Definitely worth a try.

A decent-looking brew: lush, white head over a copper-hued body. Juicy, fruity aroma - ever-so-slightly hoppy and sweet. Pleasat, lightly carbonated mouthfeel. Tart hops that are well-blended with the sweet malts. A very easy beer to drink, as it is very smooth and low in alcohol. Delicate flavor of hops. I would definetly drink this again.
