evan3216 (2), Ohio, USA does not count Dec 22, 2006 A flavorful, robust beer with little after taste. Just discovered the 8.5% content. Never would have guessed it. I enjoyed several pints at Boston’s in Dayton, OH. ehhdayton (1086), USA Dec 22, 2006 Pours orangish-brown wtih a white head. The aroma is malty with caramel and toffee. Flavor is full with maltiness, caramel, toffee, and the finish is full bodied. BelgianGirl (89), West Chester, Ohio, USA Feb 23, 2005 Golden amber color with a creamy white head. This was a sweet beer with a caramel flavor and aroma. Pretty good overall. Silphium (2027), Lansing, Michigan, USA Feb 14, 2005 Clearish orange-red body, thin off-white head. Big butterscotchy aroma that carries over into the flavor. Bready, caramely body with a touch of peat. The butterscotch component makes this beer taste like a Werthers candy. Medium-bodied, light carbonation. A pretty solid beer shared by John (JCW). OldGrowth (1279), Cary, North Carolina, USA Feb 13, 2005 Bottle, from trade with JCW. Good nose, Little maple, molasses, toffee. Reminds me of a barley pop or the smell of mash. Clean orangy red color, nice head that faded. Sweet flavors, like the aromas little coffee in there, alot like mash. Little metallic bite in there. Medium body, oily creamy mouthfeel, sweet, some bitter bite, sticky finish. Man that’s a great beer. Unlike any Scotch ale I’ve had. None of that peaty earthy funk I associate with the catagory. Damn good. If this is 8.5% i can’t notice. Thanks JCW
