COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
There’s an old myth that brewers clean their kettles in the spring and Bock beer is made from the residue in the kettle. There’s not a shred of truth in it. These traditional beers are meant to warm the soul after a long winter. Our Helles Bock is a golden colored brew with a smooth, deep malt flavor, but sometimes, especially in the Spring, we make it as a Maibock, with a delightful hop aroma.

Draft at Comet with Shigadeyo. Pours a translucent amber with a small off white head. Faint malty aroma. Medium carbonation. Nice toasted malt and bready malt base countered by spicy european hops, which provide a pleasant bite. I agree with Shigadeyo, that it had some mellow whisky or perhaps a mild boozy like charcter to it. Nice beer.

3/06/2007 at The Comet with illinismitty... Bright, clear, light copper/honey color with a small, foamy beige head. Malt and light fruit to in the aroma. Substantial, but not overpowering malt flavor (slightly toasty) with hints of fruit and a whisky-like character. Supposedly the alcohol content approaches 8% for this beer, but one can’t tell since it’s so well hidden. Smooth on the palate, medium body. This is another impressive Barrel House offering and a really nice and enjoyable session bock beer! 16 oz draught.

Hazy golden pour with frothy head has a slight nose of straw, sweet caramel, and maple syrup. Palate is very nice with a creamy heft to it. Flavor is rich and deep with a caramel stickiness that is rounded nicely by a hop back. Easy to hoist a few, but a mature character as well.

On draft in Columbus near OSU campus. Gold, thin head, good lacing, low carbonation. Fruity nose, doughy palate, hoppy finish. Okay, I prefer the german bocks I guess.

Draft at Beer Sellar in KY. Poured a clear deep dark amber with a moderate frothy head that diminished slowly. Average caramel malt aroma. Medium body. Balanced caramel malt and small hop flavor with a smooth solid finish. Solid drinkable brew.

UPDATED: APR 3, 2007 Caramelly taste and aroma with a slight musty aroma. Slight hop bite on the flavor and the finish. Pretty good bock.
