Sweet! First rate! With my current rating pace, I never thought that would happen again. To the beer though, the only reason Iím rating is because itís possibly the best brown ale Iíve ever had. Tons of malty notes; bread, chocolate, coffee, light toast, hint of roast. Hops arenít the forefront, nor should they be, but thereís a light resiny aspect, maybe a bit floral as well. Nice and earthy/leafy as any decent brown should be, but these notes donít overpower the lovely, pure malt of the beast. Just great stuff. ...I also just accidentally clicked bottled; clearly itís tap only.

Tap at Browerij Lane. Poured a rich brown. Nose is malty and very nutty. Flavor follows the nose. Nice solid brown nutty beer. Great roasted malt flavors.hints of chocolate and coffee. †Drinkable, delicious and really really good.

Growler from Big Z. Pours a dark brown wit ha small light tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, burnt/charred malts. Flavor of sweet malt with some roasted notes, a touch of coffee but less than in the aroma. Definitely a top notch brown ale, very close to a porter. Nice palate - not too sweet like most brown ales. Well done! 8/4/8/4/15 [3.9/5]

Growler filled at Big Z and consumed the same day. Pours a mostly clear deep reddish brown that is still transparent with a large tan head that lasted until mid-glass and left considerable lace. Pleasant aroma of malt and light roast with just a few notes of coffee. The flavor is filled with malt and light roast, again with just a bit of coffee. Mild bitterness at the finish. This is probably one of the best brown ales I have come across, and I am glad to see a brewer on Long Island is producing it. Cheers!

Medium brown with a smallish head. Aroma of light chocolate, roasted and toasted malt, and a touch of fruit. Body is a bit thin for the flavor and I think it would improve drastically with a fuller mouth. Flavor is of light berries, some roasted malt, chocolate. Decent brown.

From tap. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty, breadish and slight chocolate note. Smooth mouthfeel. Roasted dark malty, breadish and caramelish. Bitter and slight herbal. Dry finish.

Dark brown - semi-cloudy - clingy, sudsy lace - aroma is more like a porter - chocolate, coffee, roast all belie the intended style - just a hint of nuttiness falls in line with a brown - flavor is much the same - intense roast, vanilla bean, coffee, chocolate - if I close my eyes, I can trick myself into believing that it is a porter - again, some nuttiness - I have had enough of their beers now to notice a house character, including a particular yeastiness that works in some styles, but not in this one - semi-sweet until the middle and finish, where a fairly strong bitterness for the style develops - tobacco, char - full-flavored, if not completely to style - I like it, but donít seem to love it as other raters do.

On tap at Pony Bar. Poured a near clear brown with an off-white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had some roasted malts with some dark chocolate and a hint of dark bread as well. Flavor starts with chocolate but develops into more of a combination of roasted malt and dark bread. Easy drinking.

In short: A low intensity refreshing fruity nutty brown ale. Enjoyable.
How: Tap at RattleíNí Hum, NY
The look: Almost clear mahogany body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose of nutty caramel. Taste is smooth and round. Medium body, smooth caramel, oily nuts, nice fresh refreshing tropical fruits notes, red apples, no bitterness to speak of. Basically it is a typical session brown ale with nice refreshing fruity flavors to make it very sessionnable. This is not a very tasty beer, if you drink this after an IPA and you wonít taste a thing, but as a session starter this was quite enjoyable. It was not even noon when I started drinking at RattleíNí Hum and drinking in New-York is quite expensive, especially in this economy. Oh well, desperate times call for excessive drinking.
