En TAP @Jimmys #43,NYC. Buen aroma a canela y pino. Color casi negro con destellos ruby y espuma ligera. Lazo decente. Sabor agrio, a tartar, pronunciado con un suave final de maltas dulces. Sin rastro de calabaza. Probar esta variedad de cerveza es una experiencia.

From the brewpub. I didn’t love this. The aroma is sour, but like sour milk, not tart fruit. Aroma of roast, chocolate, vegetable. The appaearence is black, thin cram colored head. The flavor is roast, light soured milk, vegetable, not great, not terrible. The finish was slightly sour, roasty. Medium in body. No pumpkin stood out. This was a misfire.

Sample at the brewery. Pours a deep brown, near black, with thin, diminishing beige head. Nose of roasted malt, sour cherry, chocolate. Medium body, moderately tart, with medium carbonation. Up front cherry flavor that recedes to the roasted malt character.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2012 On draft at Alewife Queens, where part of the proceeds were going to help Barrier overcome serious damage from Hurricane Sandy. I hope they can do that and continue to release really interesting beers like this one! First of alI think Dementor is a terrible name for a beer - I wouldn’t want to drink a beer that makes me feel demented! If I wanted that, I could have a big glass of absinthe. Fortunately, it didn’t have an effect like that. This was called a sour black pumpkin ale, and lived up to its billing. There is a little malty sweetness, but not much - pumpkin, toasted grain, and cidery sourness dominate. Very original.

jredmond (5352) - Manhattan, New York, USA - DEC 4, 2012
Draft sampled at Alewife Queens with Linh, Vi & Thi, Ken & Nicca. Pours a deep brownish black body with thin off white lacing. Aroma is light spice, full roast and very light tart. Mouthfeel is medium to thin with decent carbonation and notes of spice, wood, roasted malts, cocoa, light tart. This came off as a bit unbalanced – and essentially no pumpkin flavor at all.

Pours dark brown with small tan head. Aromas of mostly roast with some chocolate, pumpkin spice, and a touch of tartness. Flavors of some sour tartness, little roast, not getting a lot of pumpkin spice still a nice beer.
