UPDATED: FEB 27, 2010 While in Playa del Carmen, I purchased at least a few stubby bottles of Barrilito. Have to say, it wasn’t off-putting, especially when you compare it to other available beers. It actually had a nice bitterness, and it was fairly balanced and drinkable. Kind of reminded me of a Corona but with some more bitterness. This beer was far from great, but it was decent. RERATE, bottles in Tlachichuca, Mexico: Pretty much as watery and light as they come (only 3.6% ABV), but no major off-flavors. Herbal bitterness. Light and bready malts. No noticeable alcohol. Refreshing when very cold, but that’s about it.

Bottle 32,5 cl. Courtesy of Theis. Pours a clear yellow with a small white head. Sweet aroma of brewing cereal. Light body, skunky unclean brewing cereal, rather tart. Phenollic. Ends dry. Heavy carbonation. Poor. 250711

Bottled. A light yellow beer with a thin white head. The aroma has notes of malt and a bit of straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, straw, and some metal, leading to a dry finish. Thanks Theis for sharing.

First beer of my trip to Mexico. Pale straw coloured pour - thin head. Fairly watery aroma. The flavour is thin and watery. Fairly inoffensive - but it’s very bland.

The little barrel. I was given a six pack of this when my friend went to Mexico for the weekend and I asked him to bring me some beer. I had one and I thought that at the very least it wasn’t all that bad. My girlfriend liked it and drank all but one, the one I was drinking just now. It looks so bad, like dirty water almost, so pale yellow, hardly any color. I poured it very strongly so it had some head, and it did last more than I thought it would but looking at this is not a treat. Aroma was faint corn and that’s it, taste was bland and feel was very watery. I remember it being better. I’m going to get a fresh six pack and re-rate it if i is in fact better.
