VENOM (941), Connecticut, USA Jan 1, 2003 Ruby hued dark caramel sheen. Thin beige head. Light, big bubbled carbonation. Aroma of toasted chocolate and caramel and dry nuts. Soft and gentle with a low carbonation. Rich toffee and dry nuts with a hint of cocoa in the aftertaste. Medium light body. Fairly dry. Low bitterness. Smooth and easy drinking, if thinnish. Finishes with bittersweet cocoa and dry nuts and a thicker body. A good, wholesome version.
goldtwins (3721), Nesconset, New York, USA Jul 2, 2008 Poureed aclear golden brown color with a small off-white head. Light caramel malt aroma with some earthy notes and a hint of cocoa. The flavor was malty with notes of dark cocoa and cola. The body was on the light side. JoeMcPhee (3671), Jackson Heights, New York, USA May 31, 2008 Bottle shared by goldtwins. Deep dark brown beer. Aroma is quite sweet and malty with a nice rich nutty component. Lightly fruity over a nice sweet malty base. Soft chewy character on the back. It’s slightly sweet but quite nice nonetheless. jjpm74 (2878), Connecticut, USA Mar 25, 2008 Growler; samples at the brewpub: Pours brown with a thin tan head. Smells of nuts, lots of spice, caramel, molasses, touches of burnt malt. Tastes sweet and rich with a nice spicy character. The malt profile yields some nice biscuits, caramel and touches of nuttiness. It is very hard to make a good brown ale that has a palate and profile as rich as this one. One of the best browns I’ve had to date. beerbuzzmontreal (2697), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 2, 2007 Pours a dark brown color with a thin light brown head. Good aroma and flavor of nuts, burnt caramel and malt. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and gentle carbonation. Aurelius (2447), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Oct 12, 2007 Very smooth drinking. Aroma is cold mocha and herbal/grassy. Initial swig is a bit acidic, but then it buffers out. Choco-chalky, lightly sweet, lightly-to-moderate bittering. My guess is American hops. Borderline porter. Thanks to DW.
