COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed just like the original from Burton upon Trent. This style calls for a high hop rate combined with an elevated alcohol content because it was brewed to survive the journey from England to Bombay as rations for British troops. Huge amounts of two row pale malt with an addition of a few specialty malts provides a nice mouth feel buried under copious additions of Columbus hops. This beer is big but finishes clean.

Fresh taste off tap, enough hops to be interesting, frothy head, orange color, all required elements present

Pint on tap. Definitely a "classic" IPA selection. Clear & copper-colored. Nice aroma, appetizing. Not a "west coast" IPA, but very bitter all the same...less floral hops and more bittering hops. Not the best Iíve had, but definitely nothing to turn oneís nose up at.

Growler fill from Total Wine in Tempe. It pours out clear copper with a nice looking tan head of foam. The modest aroma has a bit of citrus and earthy lime peel notes as well as being a touch floral too. The taste is smooth to start with giving up malts and some citrus like hop flavor. To midway and into the finish a tepid level of grapefruit and lime like citrus hop bitterness is noticed. This is smooth and soft on the palate and not really all that IPA like and even short on bitterness for a Pale. Seems a bit more ESB. Hmm?

Draft at the brewery. Bronze, clear, small head. Faint nose of grassy hops and caramel. A thin body, that finishes quickly. Overall, a light, drinkable IPA that doesn't offer much intrigue.

Not sure how this got deleted...

Sampled December 2007
Pours a clear rich, fully red tinged copper color that is topped by a thin pale tan head. The aroma is full of citrus hop notes that evoke thoughts of apricots, grapefruit, and a slight note of pine. The taste is smooth and creamy up front with a light malty sweetness. This quickly moves to a full on hop bouquet of citrusy American hops. I get notes of apricot, tangerine, candied orange peel, and a finish of bitter pine needles. This is a nice example of an IPA, and is certainly my favorite regular beer from this brewery. This beer is a great combination of creamy malt notes up front and citrusy, bitter hop notes from middle to end.

Orange pour..white head..grassy and piney aroma..very earthy on the taste. Not my fave.

Identical appearance to Barrio/Gentle Benís Red Cat Amber. Light amber body with a thin head. Dank hop nose, with a nice bitter undercurrent. This one breathes like a hot, humid Pennysylvania summer night with a whiff of skunk cabbage in the wings. Medium to light bodied and leafy, with some co-humulone heaviness, buy by no means overbearing. This one fits nicely into the funkier IPA niche. LIghtly bitter and dank, skunk cabbage finish.

Pint at Gentle Benís as Benís IPA. Pours stark red with a white head and white lacing. Aroma is not as hoppy as I want from the style. There is some grapefruit along with basement, cherry and bread. Palate is enjoyable. Itís a decent tasting beer but not a great IPA. The finish is dry from the hops but they never come into their own. Notes of sweet fruits give it balance. Middle of the road brew.

A nice, crisp, and refreshing IPA. On draft at Gentle Bens near the U of Arizona. Good hopfeel and nice head!

(Draught) Pours a clear copper body with a medium off-white head. Aroma of orange, peach, pine, and caramel. Flavor of orange, caramel, resin, earth, and peach.
