3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask conditioned at Merton Winter Beer Festival í08. Brown to amber with white head. This probably suffered due to the big beers on offer at the festival, but I found it to be a fairly straightforward malty bitter with some sweetness and nutty fruitiness, caramel and a late veg note. Itís fine but not outstanding.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a murky brown colour with an orange tinge, and a very weak head. Sweetish malt aroma, coffee hints and slightly caramelled. The taste is bittersweet, following the caramel element. Along with a nutty, malty flavour. The finish is slightly dry.(Cask - The Fox & Hounds, Heacham, Norfolk).

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle Conditioned. BBE May 2004. Gift from chris_o. Iíve been impressed with Bartrams beers so far - but this is an out of date British bottled beer, so I fully expected something sharp and nasty. Wrong! This is handsome. Fruity. Flavoursome. Yes, of course, the hops have not survived - they are always the first things to suffer, but the malt is very decent. An all round good pint, that should be spanking when fresh.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This is a strongish, mid brown bitter using Fuggles and Goldings hops. Fruit and malt in the aroma. This poured a little hazy (despite careful pouring), but that did not detract from the flavour which again featured malt and fruit, but with plenty of balancing bitterness. Long, well balanced finish. Bottle-conditioned, October 2003
