Cask (gravity) @ 27th Pigs Ear Beer and Cider Festival 2010, at The Round Chapel in Hackney, London, England

Clear dark black brown olour with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is light heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, caramel, english licorice, jam. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long long duration, licorice licorice, roasted, dark roasted - coffee, english licorice. Body is medium, texture is oliy to watery, carbonation is flat. [20101203]

Cask (Cambridge Winter Ale Festival 2011)
Dark brown, not much head. Coffee aroma. Taste of christmas spices, but not too much, fortunately. Liquoricey burntness. Tasty. Nice mix of roast and sweetness after following. Long finish, soothing and comforting.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Pigs Ear Beer Festival, day 4 on 2 December 2010. Nearly missed this one as I thought it was the "regular" Comrade Bill Bartram’s etc - this many words in black print on a dark green label is not easy to read. Dark brown rather than black. Chocolate on the nose and palate. Dry stuff. Very tasty without being a standout.

Pigs Ear. Thanks to Keen for getting us on to this one, we might otherwise have missed it - being already familiar with the regular version and not reading this bloody long title! Opaque dark brown beer. Good sized suddy tan head. Light palate for an RIS, semi dry. Licorice and some coffee. Sprinkling of minerals. Smooth dark malt with some jammy fruit underneath. Well joined up. Finishes smooth and light. Very drinkable.
