Bottle shared with Casey on Saturday having just walked in from Merton Winter Beer Festival Feb 08 Dark brown with little or no head. some soft sourness and chocolate on the nose. This was a really quite fruity and that I really liked about this beer, the damsons were very much in evidence and definately came to the fore what I wasn’t so sure about was the combining Damsons with Stout but hey maybe that’s just me, but I like the inventiveness of someone prepared to try something like this.

Bottle with Fin, post Merton Winter Beer Festival. Thanks mate! Brown/black, a few scattered off-white bubbles. Iron and faint chocolate aroma. Fine texture earthy roast flavor, more iron-pump handle, green plums and a fair amount of astringency. More fruit than roast, but not sure the fruit is a great compliment here.

Bottle. Exploded out the bottle. Eventually "settles" to a red tinted black beer with a big beige head. Aromas are light roast malts and licourice with chocolate and hints of fruit in the background. Flavours are soft roast malts, nothing too bitter, with damson skin bitterness. I think this has a fair amount of damson character especially on the finish. Pretty good.

rauchbier (3203) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - SEP 14, 2005
Bottle conditioned, from Beer Cellar in Lincoln. Red black, dense creamy lasting beige head and gentle condition. Gentle coffee, chocolate and bitter fruit skins in the nose, similar in the mouth to the Captains stout but with less noticable smokiness and liquorice but a more pronounced fruity citric note. It doesn’t scream damsons at you but something is there in the background. Finish has a chocolate powder dryness with hints of coffee and a little warmth at the finish.

Bottled. A dark purply brown coloured beer with a chocolaty aroma and light smoky roastiness and maybe some residual fruit. The taste is stouty with a little roast and a fair amount of chocolate coming through. Any fruit is pretty much non-existant, but that’s all good as the Stout qualities are worth getting to know.
