Bottle, shared by fonefan. A hazy dark brown beer with a creamy, tan head. Nice lacings. Butterscotch, roasted malt, coffee and a little note of chocolate in the aroma. The flavor is much the same, but also has some citric notes. Coffee-bitter finish with some hops and a little sourness. Medium body, quite effervescent. A quite decent beer, probably better when fresh. Or maybe not, judging from other ratings. (080822)

50 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with a redish glare and a lacing tan head. Mild spiced, slight butterish but dominantly smooth chocolate malt aroma. Slight citric flavour to a nicely roasted malt base and smooth chocolate flavour. Slight milky and citric finish, yet with a lasting chocolate malty finish.

Cask at GBBF 08. Cloudy dark brown. Aroma of big butter diacetyl. Things don’t improve in the mouth either. I will certainly re-rate given Chris_O’s previous rating.

Cask@GBBF2008. hazy deep brown colour with big off-white head. Aroma is bigtime diacetyl. Flavour is diacetyl meeting fruits and wood. Also some slight chocolate, but diacetyl is the main thing...

Cask (gravity dispense); Beer #3 at Bedford Beer Festival 2005. Looks like this is rather variable in bottle, but it was a damn fine drop from cask on this particular day. Very dark, almost black colour, with just a tinge of ruby. Dry chocolate and subtle coffee aroma. Dryish flavour, with more powdery chocolate and burnt malt. Plenty of interest here. Just a touch of bitterness on the finish.

Bottle from Rai Wines, Harborne. Slightly ruddy Mild - big beige head. Metallic roast aroma. Thin, fizzy mouthfeel. Fairly friendly, gentle roasty mouthful, plus a hint of smoke, as promised, too. Pleasant, drinkable and quenching. Insistent, with a snickins of artificiality in the finish. Good Mild.

Bottle Conditioned - A muddy brown coloured mild with a sour aroma with a bit of chocolate and tobacco. The taste is also over sour (I doubt the bottle is on top form). There is a little light roastiness and again a touch of chocolate.
