Bright bottled @ Thurrock Fest. No fresh notes as the bell had been rung and I was rushing to get the last of my bottles filled. This is a dark amber traditional best bitter with plenty of roasty and coffee notes in the manner of a stout. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Dark brown beer with orange highlights; small yellow-cream head. Winelike aroma’s, dark malts, black chocolate, some nutmeg. Quite bitter beer, very woody in character. Dry & tanninerich, nearly woodstripper-like. Very faint fruity flavours. In the finish, again, chocolate flavours, and some liquorice. Very dry, going to thin, but it is not watery. I even find some adstringency. A bitter, this? Not bad, but a bit severe. It’s not a real session beer, its low ABV notwithstanding.
