Cask, Newcastle Arms. Golden with a thin white head and decent lace. Slightly soapy with a bit of grassy hop in the flavour. Nothing leaps out. Dryish finish. Ordinary.

Nice hops. Lightish and refreshing. A touch dull compared to the other golden ales at the festival, but this is still better than the typical bland goldens from a few years back. Just a pale bitter.

On cask at Sheaf View, Sheffield. No hop aroma and reeked of diacetyl. Slight haze. Couldn’t taste anything past the diacetyl.

Bottle.gold with a medium head,some hops in the aroma,dry with malt and some grass,bitter finish.

Fully clear pale amber; good yellowish tinted firm head. Rather adstringent initial nose, ammonia, then mix of ambrée malt, grain and British hops. Something vegetal as well, mouldy. Sharp ambrée malts taste, again some adstringency, very flat & neutral main taste, going over in a bitter finish that does not really speak of very noble hops. Warming up, however, some grassy/malty flavours appear, not unlike some German sessionbeers. Some body, not really thin. All in all, a bit Orval-like, but in a very crude travesty.

Cask at Royal Oak, Ockbrook. Deep gold body, thick yet receeding head, riven bitterness all the way through, fairly average.

Bottled Cloudy golden, rich head. Dryish and medium bodied, grassy and somewhat metallic. Inky, bitter finish.
