The latest installment in our Location Series, inspired by a springtime hike down to the pristine Chetco River in Oregonís Kalmiopsis Wilderness. This spicy, full-bodied saison pays homage to that experience: breathing the arid, dry air combed by stands of burnt out fir, winding through sunburnt sandstone dotted with bright bunches of Kalmiopsis flowers, slipping down into the crystal-clear, bracingly satisfying water of the Chetco.

Bottle formed can. Orange color. Lime, grapefruit and mango in the aroma and flavor. The fruit is dominant, overruling the hop character. Fresh Fairly dry. Quite pleasant.

Aluminium bottle. Golden, cloudy, average to large and mostly diminishing head. Light to moderate malty - lightly wheaty and sweetish aroma, some caramel light fruitiness and spiciness (coriander), light citrus hoppyness. Body is light to medium, malty - lightly wheaty and lightly sweetish - sweetish flavor, light caramel and fruitiness, light spiciness and light - some citrus hoppyness. Finish is average malty - lightly wheaty with light bread, light caramel and spiciness and light - some citrus hoppyness, faint alcohol. Bit thin saison with caramel and notes of bread. Could be drier with more bitterness.

Cloudy, tan. Bubblegum forward, with slightly biscuity malt, touch of acidity late. Maybe too much residual sweetness for me.

Bottle/can from Belmont Station. Pours orange/amber with a slight white head. Aroma is dusty/earthy/spicy. Med body. Flavor is dusty/earthy/spicy and arguably some floral/fruit hop. The earthy approaches barnyard. Doesnít get there. The flavors are quite strong. It finishes near barnyard and spicy. I vote for Belgian yeast (tho Iím not sure about fruit esters, there is a banana note. I think.) Finishes saison/farmhouse. Firmly so. Tasty.

On tap at the brewery. Pour is hazy golden orange with a big white head and great lacing. Perfumey, pepper, light biscuit, grass, coriander, and basil in te aroma. Taste is phenolic, waxy, herbs, coriander, biscuit, dough, and grass with spicy finish. Medium body with high carbonation. Meh.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), moderately hoppy (resin), with notes of bubble gum, grains of paradise, perfume, plastic, corn syrup. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, unclean. Medium body, syrupy/watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Simply terrible...sugar syrup, goopy, perfumey and artificial smelling, just an absolute mess. Repulsive even. Canít believe they call this a saison. Oh wait, yes I can.
