3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750mL bottle, split with manuchampions, Matts_Property and uhlan, pours a dark reddish brown with a thick off-white head - lots of sediment. Aroma of spices, pepper, sort of rye bread, and some floral notes. Flavour is sort of like a dark malt saison with Belgian spices, chocolatey-ish malts, and subtle orange [peel]. Nice melange of spices, with light molasses and light toasted bread. Very enjoyable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Good cream-coloured head with some lace over deep red-copper beer. Lightly smoked - like roasted chestnuts and roast malts, faintly spiced smelling. Taste turns out to be more bitter than expected, and definitely spiced; pinch of cacaopowder. Quite slick, well-bodied, even a bit chewy. Interesting, but not really great. Strikes me as a rather Walloon-style strong ale.

33cl, new exclusive brewfirm Anno 2011, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex brew, malty/sweet and slightly fruity/spicy, balanced, hazy, good head, good brew, ’This to celebrate my 2000th Belgian Beer Rating. Always nice to see some new Belgian breweries and brewfirms coming out! Starting my life as a wine taster I didn’t think I would get so far with craft beer... I still pursue all bottled Belgian beers I havn’t rated yet, except low alcohol. Many thanks to those fellow Beergeeks who helped me out in this never ending venture...’ Note to Joris: the deal still goes on... (as soon I will have another milestone!)
