Grainy caramel aromas with some hoppy earthiness. Monotonous caramel maltiness with a touch of citrus. Smooth on the palate with a short finish. Nothing exceptional. Body somewhat thinner than an ESB. A slight unpleasant alcohol and metallic aftertaste on the tp of the tongue. Overall a decent beer for a couple of pints but no more. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 13, 2007 Cask. At The Red Lion, Crown Passage off Pall Mall, London. Shared with my wife, who quite liked it; me ... meh. Poured amber-tinged gold with a smallish off-white head. Up-front aroma of sweet light grain malt, vaguely fruity, and a little tart, odd in a bitter, I thought - the light hops seemed a bit harsh and acidic, even to the nose. The taste - yes, quite acidic - not strong at all, just a somewhat harsh dry hop with acidic intrusions, at least compensating for an overly sweet malt backbone - is that really dry Kent hops in there? Wish I could tell ... Average body, extremely quick finish, at least the acidity doesn’t linger on the tongue, and made this unique in my short experience of cask bitters this trip - as I said, this could have been overly sweet, almost cloying, but that was compensated for. lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA

Sweet and fruity, medium bodied. With it’s mushy mouthfeel, the stale boiled vegetables and it’s lacklustre overall character it does nothing to convince of seeking it out again. donovan1983 (55), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 29, 2007 On tap at Old Chicago. Pours a nice lighter amber. Has a very pleasant, sweet aroma. The taste was sweet, made me think of apples and honey. A bit too sweet for me and made it a little difficult to finish the pint. Would have been better if the sweetness was toned down a little, or maybe balanced out by some bisquity malt. Not a bad brew, just not for me. Have resisted rating this for a while because off-form it’s like drinking squash.... milky pint, resolving into a Tizerish orange amber. Oak, apple peel, Burton snatch in the nose. Mild-mannered apple fruitiness with a leafy hop finish, and a touch of liquorice earthiness as it warms. Delicately subtle, temperamental English sessions.
