COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Regular.
Contract brewed by Marston for Interbrew UK.
Brewed to 4.4% abv, Draught Bass is still brewed to an original recipe using only the finest ingredients and the experience of generations. It is brewed with two strains of yeast to produce a complex nutty, malty taste with subtle hop undertones, which has widespread appeal to repertoire drinkers.

Cask at the Magazine, New Brighton. Oh dear, wasn’t this supposed to be good once upon a time ? Nasty aroma of veg on the turn and something strange and off putting that put me in mind of unisex hairdressers frequented by smelly old grannies. Drab insipid flavour not worth dwelling on. Really no redeeming qualities here at all. Wish I’d had a pineapple juice. Bloody awful beer.

If I thought this was dismal in the bottle and couldn’t get worse, I was now seriously mistaken. Poured a chestnut hued gold, bright, with a quickly diminishing thin pad of white (though the pint was filled to the brim - value!). Rust and peanut aroma, touch of malt. Thin, watery and overly sweet in the mouth for its dismal body to handle. There’s just an inkling of malt and a little zest of something I couldn’t define down the sides of the tongue, and the aftertaste has traces of brine, nuts and butter. This is woeful at best. Washed it down with a bottle of water and some hardy bangers and mash as I couldn’t bring myself to tip it out. A famous name, not a famously good beer.

This is quite simply awful. This once great beer has had the taste destroyed over the past 30 years. It amazes me that pubs still stock the stuff. Its only saving grace is the fact that it is still better that at least 50 real ales in the UK. If you still drink Draught Bass your taste buds are dead either because your a heavy smoker or you are a senial old fool who once remembered a beer that was good. If you don’t fit into either of these catagories it may be that this is all your local pub has! in which case for christ’s sake try something else which may have some taste.
