COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask and bottle conditioned.
This exceptionally smooth stout is produced from the original recipe that was shipped to the Russian port of St. Petersburg for the Czar’s Imperial Court. The smooth mellowness derives from the long maturation time in cask before being bottled in very limited numbers.

Bottle from Fin, Thanks!!! - Very dark brown body with a beautiful red shine, medium sized beige head; Not a very big but on the other hand a very very dense nose, dark malts that become almost tart like mixed well dark sweet caramel aromas, very good; The body is somewhat the same way, watery textured with super dense parts of roasted bitterness, lightly salt and bitter; Tons of aroma is arriving with the finish, again a little thin textured but tar, tobacco, very dark burnt caramel, English licorice makes for very complex aromas. Very interesting beer, that would become amazing with a journey in an old barrel to St Petersburg. Thanks!

Bottle thanks to Miketd- also thanks to kmweaver for sharing. Thanks guys. Pours a deep woody brown-black with some ruby highlights- no head on mine. Aroma is thickly sweet with tons of sweetish malts some chocoate, lots of fruity esters and light roast. Flavor is also on the sweet side- tons of crystal malts, toffee, caramel, dried fruits- figs and dates, riaisn- with some roast and chcolate and a slight licorice in there- hints of dried tobacco leaf and earth- a bit leathery on the finish but otherwise somewhat smooth.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with red accents with a tan head. Lightly roasty with light vanilla, raisin, caramel, and over ripe fruit. Decent.

Cask at the rail ale festival 08. Dark dark dark, pretty much black. Not as complex as I thought it would be, not always a bad thing of course and certainly not in this case. Very very drinkable. Liqourice, slight smokiness, dark chocolate, caramel, toffee. Sounds pretty busy but just tasted very nicely balanced. Belter!

Cask, Burton Summer Fest 08. Dark brown with minimal head. Aromas are rich malts with figs, raisins and bready yeast. Smoky, woody and peppery. Flavours are molasses and dark chocolate malts with liquorice. Herbal and vinous with raisins. Roast malts with berries and citrus and smoky notes. Viscous on the palate with a woody, bitter finish. Warming and drinkable despite its strength. Amazing.

Finally, I had this in a bottle at home. Dark with hints of purple this beer pours with a small amount of foam. Flavours are of coffee, chocolate, licourice and earthy notes. A burnt malts finish completes this good beer.

Cask, Tamworth BF 08 Vs Brewdog Tokyo. Black olive and wax crayon aroma sodden with apple (fallen, lawn), charred malt and cask wood. This is very nearly one of the best beers I’ve ever had. Murderous freshly crunched Gala apple fruit, deep dusty burnt chocolate (milk), currants in rum (hint). Massive and silky. Very little alcohol, huge fruit and roasty choc balance. PACKED with fruit beside the Tokyo, which actually has cranberry added to it. Can’t get over that fresh apple mellowness. Whatever the politics and whoever makes it, WOW.

Dark brown with medium beige head. Sweet vinious with caramel, roasted malt, ripe fruits and toffee notes. Ends with warming alcohol.
