Commercial Description:
This exceptionally smooth stout is produced from the original recipe that was shipped to the Russian port of St. Petersburg for the Czar's Imperial Court. The smooth mellowness derives from the long maturation time in cask before being bottled in very limited numbers.

Mini-cask @ the RBESG08 Grand Tasting.
[thank you, chris o]
Pours deep black with a small, bubbly, beige head. Aroma is sweet, light chocolate and subdued roastiness. Low carbonation, oily mouthfeel. Flavour is wonderful, notes of raspberries among the good roasted malts, chocolate, a touch of coffee and a long dry aftertaste. Good ’bite’ and exceptionally drinkable.

Draught from minikeg. Amber colour, small head. Aroma is pine, roasted malts, some slight notes of oxidation along with chocolate, salted licorice and mild vanilla. Flavour is roasted malts, some acidicness, salted licorice, chocolate and alcohol. Very pleasant.

Big thanks to cgarvieuk. Poured with an almost opaque brown color and small beige head (with a strong pour). Chocolaty aroma. Like chocolate licorice, not the black ones but the brown ones, and hot chocolate powder. The flavor is of dry roasted malt and a chalky chocolate. Light to medium bodied. Some mild warmth but no alcohol taste. The beer opened up a good bit with warmth. With a fuller smoother milk chocolate did come some alcohol but not too much to distract.

Draught at RBESG. Near black, minimal head. Evident coffee aroma. Sweet and fruity with near full body. There’s prunes, licroice and chocolate sauce and well as cocoa and caramel. Alcohol is quite evident, and the flavours does not blend together all that well. Finishes with low bitterness and some raw stickyness.

Sampled at the RBESG08 grand tasting. Dark brown with a red edge, small beige head. Fruity and spicy with some roasted chocolate notes. More alcoholic than no 1.

Courtesy ChzMan. Black/brown/garnet. A few tan bubbles. Lightly roasty malt, some dark bready malt, subtle cocoa, subtle oak. Like a strong brown porter. Medium/full body, lightly carbonated.

Thanks again Tom!!! Pours a burnt mahogany, light carbonation. Aroma is roasted, with slight notes of licorice and smoke. Flavor is a continuation on the theme, with a nice rounding bitterness. A wonderful beer, but not as amazing as the #1.

RBESG2008: 5 L partyfass. Thanks to chris o. Pours dark brown with a golden reddish glare and a slowly collapsing and light tan head. Mild fruity and dense malty aroma. Spiced and dense malty flavour. Warming alchol finish mixed with a nice dense malt note. Light coffee note too. Ends with a lingering set of roasted notes. Nice.
