A version of Bass for the North American market at 5%.
Brewed from the late 70s at Burton. In 2000, after Interbrew bought the Bass brand, production was switched to the Ulster brewery in Northern Ireland. In 2003 production and distribution was switched to Latrobe for a 12-18 period after which it reverted to the UK, latterly at InBev’s Samlesbury brewery. As of 2012, the US version was being produced at A-B InBev’s Baldwinsville brewery.

This was the last beer I was regularly drinking before...well, before I fell in with the lot of you. Revisiting it, I would have thought, nah, it’s not gonna be good. But it is. Could use a bit more hops, but it’s English, right? Nice and subtle. The maltiness is really there, from aroma through the middle. Quite good. Is this the best, mass-produced beer in the world?

UPDATED: JAN 30, 2003 Has been part of many a black and tan as well as a good anytime beer. Ubiquitous on draught in these parts. Truly nothing special, just a decent English Pale, but I've bought it before and will again, no doubt.

This is the first English Ale that I really enjoyed on a consistent basis. It has a pronounced flavor that embodies everything I enjoy about ale. Nothing is better that a fresh bottle of Bass. Older bottles can get a skunky taste which is very noticable for Bass. Best fresh and ice cold!

Full-bodied taste, just not my type of body. In terms of my taste, I compare it to a fat chick. Bitter and too Englishy for my taste.

Not bad as pale ales go. Has an original taste and is bitter enough to remind you that you have been drinking it. Above average.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2008 Can 500 ml , purchased at LCBO
Appearance: Very handsome look of dark amber with large creamy, rich, tick crown on top. 4+
Nose: Refreshing aromatic hops with clean malt feel below. Sweet with light nutty accents.
Flavor/Palate : Medium bodied but with rich spectrum, feel fuller than it is yet light on palate. Silky, smooth good balance of amber malt with light green woody aromatic hop. Slight alcohol touch sits in corner. Bass pale ale gives impression of refinement.
