A version of Bass for the North American market at 5%.
Brewed from the late 70s at Burton. In 2000, after Interbrew bought the Bass brand, production was switched to the Ulster brewery in Northern Ireland. In 2003 production and distribution was switched to Latrobe for a 12-18 period after which it reverted to the UK, latterly at InBevís Samlesbury brewery. As of 2012, the US version was being produced at A-B InBevís Baldwinsville brewery.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2015 This is the beer that started me on my way as a beer lover way back many years ago. Many people Iíve spoken to think Bass has changed and is not as good as it used to be. Not sure if this is true but it tastes to me that this is the case. Shame that such an iconic British pale ale was allowed to get bought out. I will always have a soft spot for Bass. The aroma is light, with floral and woody tones, small berry notes, momentarily breaks even some hint of whiskey. The taste is dry, with a slightly dull-berry fruit acidity, flash notes lollipops, trees and grassy felt bitterness against the backdrop of thick malt substrate. Aftertaste suddenly warming, long, good acidity intertwined with bitterness.

Thirty years ago, when Bass was brewed at Burton on Trent and was imported to the US, I thought it was a fine mild ale. Nowadays, it is a pale spectre of what it was. Thin, watery and with some odd chemically manipulated malty flavors, American Bass stands as yet another prime example of AB Inbevís corporate, profit driven erosion of another fine brand. Very disappointing.

Been enjoying this brew, off and on, through the years; but of late, itís become maybe a touch more sweet and a bunch hop-less; like thereís something missing from the Bass enjoyed some years back.

Bottle. Very similar to the usual British pale ales although the taste is a bit milder and the gas is a bit stronger. Not bad, not good.
