A version of Bass for the North American market at 5%.
Brewed from the late 70s at Burton. In 2000, after Interbrew bought the Bass brand, production was switched to the Ulster brewery in Northern Ireland. In 2003 production and distribution was switched to Latrobe for a 12-18 period after which it reverted to the UK, latterly at InBev’s Samlesbury brewery. As of 2012, the US version was being produced at A-B InBev’s Baldwinsville brewery.

Poured into a pint glass. Transparent amber color with a half finger of white head and left some lacing as it retreated. It smells like whiskey and apple juice. I was surprised by this, but I like it. Slight sour apple taste with a little bitter kick at the end. Not a whole lot going on, but it tastes nice. Smooth and lighter body with low carbonation. It is nice but not exceptional. Apparently it is the World’s first pale ale and a world-wide icon.

Been enjoying this brew, off and on, through the years; but of late, it’s become maybe a touch more sweet and a bunch hop-less; like there’s something missing from the Bass enjoyed some years back.

Bottle. Very similar to the usual British pale ales although the taste is a bit milder and the gas is a bit stronger. Not bad, not good.

Draught at Kuppers Kolsch on Imadegawa. Golden amber with creamy head. Soapy aroma, but I think that is the poor line condition at the bar. Light floral hop flavour. Not much bitterness.

Golden with a white head - Malts in the aroma, with hints of hops - Malt body with hints of caramel and some hops with some bitterness - Malt and some hop bitterness in the finish - This was ok, a little bit on the malty side for an esb

Light orange clear pour. Some hop character but not much. Some mild malts but not much. Not a drain pour but I only drink when it’s free at the craps table.

This is a mild beer, under hopped, with a slight malt taste. It has a small head and light body.
