2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 oz bottle pours a clear amber color with small white head and a little lacing. Aroma is full of malts and grains, mostly malty without any hoppiness.. Easily drinkable with a slightly weird finish. Body is light to medium with above average carbonation. Much better than average for this brewery, buit that isn’t saying much.

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle from Masuyo’s in Asagaya. Poured into an English tulip pint. Brownish amber color with slight off-white head. Little to no noticeable aroma outside of a hint of caramel. Mass-produced grainy nondescript flavour with hints of caramel. Hops in there somewhere. What happened to the bass I remember of 15 years ago? None of the flavour or aromas I remember.

Brown pour from bottle. Malt and caramel spiced slightly. A roast character is in there too. Not too bad.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Average for the style despite the history. Non-existent aroma. Auburn color. Medium to light palate with higher carbonation than desired. Bland malty flavors that made it an average beer. Slight hops presence. Tasted mass-produced.

1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20
Poured into a tumbler on 03.28.14.
A: See through light copper. No head or lacing with an aggressive pour. Can see bubbles rising from the bottom.
S: Flower, grape, cherry. It has a candy-like artificial smell to it.
T: Burnt malt, chemicals. Slightly grape. Bitter plastic.
O: This was an unbalanced mess. The chemical candy flavor could have at least been balanced with the burnt malt, but it was not. The aroma was terrible and it continued to be terrible on the first sip. Drain pour. It had a flimsy bottle typical of AB-InBev. Oh gee, look who owns Bass Brewery!

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at the Don Mills Bier Markt. Pours a clear orange colour with moderate-sized white head that leaves good lace. Aroma has fruit, grains and some mineral character. Flavour is also fruity and grainy with a light floral character and some mineraliness in the finish. Average body. Decent.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Decent brew. Amber color , nice head. Malt , bread and hint of caramel in aroma. Malty , earthy character in taste, pleasant hoppy bitterness in aftertaste. Very good , as for mass-product, even though it doesn't taste like true English bitter.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 6/20/2014. Pours slightly hazy deep copper color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings around the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, toffee, toasted biscuit, plum, pear, apple, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toffee, toasted biscuit, plum, pear, apple, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of herbal/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, toasted biscuit, plum, pear, apple, light pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice robustness and balance of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly metallic mouthfeel that is okay. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5%. Overall this is a very solid English pale ale. All around good balance and robustness of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20
The US version certainly looks attractive, pouring a clear orange-amber with virtually no head.
Unfortunately, that’s where the interest ends. Not much aroma, and a generic, mass-market taste. A slight hint of caramel just before the end is about the only note.
Not terrible, just poor, the sort of generic product that American drinkers were stuck with for too long.
