Poured a dark, clear amber with a nice head that faded slowly. Aroma was a bit fruity with a malt backend. Taste was of malt with hint of smoke and moderate hop finish. Mouth feel was decent. Overall a decent ale, but nothing fantastic.

Color is perfect, gives some head but doesn’t really lace well. English Goldings are some of the world’s best hops, they literally got me to think beyond American premiums almost thirty years ago. So I have a soft spot for this beer, but lets be fair: Flavor is somewhere between malty English Pale and a really good bitter. Although this is widely available, I think it’s a classic. Not the most depth, but is true to itself. Doesn’t make excuses. Great.

On tap at Hogs and Heifers. First pint I purchased, but it was interrupted by some middle aged man in a suit handing me a shot of some nice whiskey, which I graciously accepted. Immediately thereafter he bought us a round so I had another Bass. There were several thousand bras hanging on one wall and ancient dusty taxadermy on the other wall. All the while the bartender (in a bra) was yelling at two women dancing on the bar, "don’t stop now ladies. it’s like sucking your man’s cock, if you’re not going to swallow you shouldn’t have even undone his zipper". How the hell did I end there? Oh right, the beer. Pretty good actually. Didn’t show adjuncts or any old dusty poor malt character. Nice malty but enough hops to balance it nicely. I was pleased.

12oz bottle. Filtered, dull amber-tan color. Thin, oily off-white head. Mellow fruity malt aroma, not much hop character. Medium bodied, lots of caramel and toffee tones, though the body is quite watery. An odd off pungency, maybe some raisin or prune. Quite a shabby brown ale, pale ale, or bitter. Remains drinkable, but overall pretty unimpressive stuff.

Clear amber, creamy beige head, foamy lacing. Aromas of malt and yeast. Balanced taste with a slight nod toward the bitter. Medium bodied.

Pours a three-finger white head that fades slowly, leaving a good lace. Nice, deep crystal clear amber color. Light-medium carbonation and light bodied. Nose is light hops. Flavor is light caramel and hops, dry, light hop finish. $1.85 for a 12 oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

Beer stash refrig. 12 oz. bottle. Poured to my SA glass showing a clear golden amber, with a nice sized head of off white, tight bubbled foam, and a lasting, web-like etching to the lacing. The aroma was lightly sweet and bready malt, with the flavor adding to these, a moderate hop bitterness, and light dryness to the finish. Somewhat light bodied, with less than medium carbonation. Nothing too complicated, but nicely sessionable.
