Bottle. Clear amber pour topped by a diminishing white head. Smells of toffee and earthy English hops. Tastes of caramel and tobacco. This used to be my go to beer before I discovered craft beer, now it is merely OK.

On draft, ruddy hue, good carbonation with tiny off-white head. Current version in US has a light malty tang aroma leading to sour malt and some biscuit and nut flavors. Very thin body and weak finish.

Pours a perfect crisp amber with a thin fizzy white head that quickly fades to a skim and a ring that stays. Aroma is grassy, floral and citrus hops, straw, a little caramel and raw cereal grains. Flavor is cereal grain, caramel, straw, apple, floral hops, a little citrus, a sorta sour and nutty drying like slightly underripe walnuts. Finish is dry and slightly bitter with a grainy, almost adjunct taste to it. Body is thin and watery a bit high on carbonation. Not bad for a beer that is everywhere, though I have bought a few skunky sixers over the years.

[bottle] Nutty and red apple aroma with a some floral hops together with caramel malt. Clear amber with a quickly dropping white foam. Melanoidiny spicy malt with a definite metallic feel that sort of messes up the assertive bitterness, making it sour and pungent. Notes of nuts and brown sugar. Finish is quite bitter, medium carbonation. light to medium body. [cask] Nice brown sugar caramel aroma with faint, lemony hops as well as a pleasant diacetyl butterscotch.(6) Orange-light brown with no head.(2) Nutty caramel flavour with significant bitterness, but still quite sweet. Boring.(5) Medium body, low carbonation, nutty sweet finish. Needs more carbonation.(2) /12

This was one of my favorites before I discovered good beer. I still do not mind it. Malty and a little sweet, some nut flavors, pleasant aroma. A little metallic at times and weak on the mouthfeel. Decent even if it is not the most exciting beer out there.

On tap. Pours a clear amber with a small white head that settles down to a thin layer. Aromas of caramel malt, lemon, faint hops. Taste is a bland and little metallic with some spicy hops. Creamy to watery on the palate. Sharp, metallic, short finish. Not as good as I remember it being.
